Based on our experience in June, we definitely found cheaper prices on many things at Super U, that's for sure! I would think that eventually Grand Marche will have to reduce their prices, in order to compete better. Not sure why the minister feels like government needs to get involved. It would seem that the free market should take care of the problem..

For probably the same reasons government here in the States sticks its nose into so many things it really need not involve itself in. And so often, their sticking their collective nose into things generally results in more rules and regulations and loss of control, and more times than not, over the long haul, higher pricing on too many things as well. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

Or the other alternative - "Because they can.....!!" <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

I guess you're right about that--because they can!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Laugh.gif" alt="" />

The good thing I guess is that at least maybe the publicity will convince more Dutch side residents to take a drive to the French side for their groceries. The editorial in the DH today agrees with me. http://www.thedailyherald.com/index.php?...l&Itemid=68

I'm not sure either, Carol, but the Grande Marche person was exactly correct in that the Minister, in my opinion, kind of a made a fool of himself. He was not comparing Carrefour prices, which probably are on a par with the other grocery store. We have had a chance to try Carrefour brands and they are pretty good. Not sure how the comparison would go if it was store brand to store brand.

Agreed, we bought quite a few Carrefour items at Grand Marche, and they were just fine.

The Super U is in Marigot....at Hallowell Center-sale meat, inexpensive wines.

I remember parking for the previous Match was a bit of a pain. Did they improve that at all?
