I didn’t get this done in time to put into the regular trip report, but wanted to post a note about Petit Casino and Yellow Sub. Petit Casino is NOT a gambling establishment, as one might initially think , it is the grocery store in Orient Village which took over the spot where Tap 5 used to be.

It is owned by Bruno, of Le Cottage, Paradise Bungalows and Dreams. Petit Casino is a well stocked little store, not as big as Grand Marche or Super U, obviously, but you can get most or all of your supplies there, depending on how much you cook in.

Bruno is soon launching a new service out of Petit Casino—DELIVERY of groceries, but only in the Orient area, Orient Village, Club O, Mt. Vernon, area. I’m not sure everything is active yet, but the website is http://www.petitcasinosxm.com They will offer traditional pre-stocking of villas and apartments and if you walk in and shop, they will also take you and your groceries back ‘home’. For now, as an introductory special, if you order at least 50Euros, delivery is absolutely FREE. And the delivery prices are exactly the same as the shelf prices in the store.

Macaron and Yellow Sub are just down from Petit Casino. Macaron offers breakfast starting at 6:15 in the morning.

Yellow Sub suffered quite a bit of damage during Hurricane Gonzalo, which took off the roof of the restaurant. Up to now, they had been making do with several huge umbrellas. But as of about this week, they are putting a whole new roof over the restaurant, which will make it a lot more comfortable. There will also again be two huge screen TVs, which will show sports or play music. Yellow Sub has a wide variety of casual foods

and will be open in the evening starting in the fall, so you can get a great burger for that first evening meal on island, or just a casual meal any time.

I bought our morning pastries every morning at Macaroons. Usually have a great variety. I don't do much showing at Petite Casino since I think the prices are much more inflated that at the Grande Marche. I realize that it is a small convenience store and therefore the prices are higher, but we still use it for necessary items we may have forgotten to buy elsewhere. Also, the workers at the Petite Casino pronounce it CASS-IN-NO.

Oh, for sure their prices have to be higher than the big stores. Thanks for the pronunciation tip!

Thanks for the post. Next winter is 2 1/2 wks in the village in a townhouse roughly behind Kakao. Knowing more about Petit Casino helps alot
I was wondering what was available since we are debating whether to not have a car the full stay, maybe a wk or a bit more and do a little local shopping, though I think we'll stick with Jeannie for initial stocking as we know what we'll get.
In the 1st pic looks like fresh lettuce / romaine and some meeats sausages in the cooler behind Eric?

Thanks for the report - helpful

Yes, they definitely do have fresh veggies. Not exactly sure what kinds of meat they stock, as I didn't look at meats. Sorry.

Sounds like a good idea - Yellow Sub for a casual dinner on 11/13. We'll be arriving on the island at 3:15, staying just up the hill at Club F.

I've been meaning to review each of these places since we returned from our trip almost a month ago. We stayed in Orient Village and pretty much frequented Petit Casino and Yellow Sub daily. I found the prices to be "reasonable enough" and the selection quite varied. They had pretty much everything we needed and then some! They had a great selection of Belgian beers and a wide selection of decent wines.

I also loved the Yellow Sub & Macaroon! Great pastries and pre-made breakfast items/sandwiches. Twice we ordered rotisserie chicken which was delicious. I also really enjoyed their fresh juices - namely the beet, radish and ginger detox (much needed). Oh, and if you get a chance - you must try the poutine with goat cheese - OH MY smile.

The small quiche they have most every day at Macaroon were also very good.

OK, thanks. Bruno said it was going to be soon, but I figured maybe that was 'island time'...
