I think that people just started to call it Maho Market because that's where is and the name just sort of stuck <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

It's NOT Maho Market?!

I've just spent 1/2 an hour trying to upload a pic that shows otherwise.
Photobucket and TTOL are not playing nice. frown

What's the difference what it is called as long as you know it is there. I will be on in Maho shortly and I will be going into the MAHO MARKET. LOL

Because Rory's question was "what is the name?"

I can't figure out how to post it myself either, as apparnetly it is a photobucket image, but BeachKitten's picture definitely shows a sign that says "Maho Market"..

I wanted to call there to see if they carry distilled water. We won't have a car and since we're staying at Maho we don't have a big enough order for Jeannie.

I can help you with that question. I have Sleep Apnea and I have found distilled water for my CPAP machine at Maho market. Stayed across the street at the LaPlage.

Hey Rory, glad you got the answer, but why didn't you just ask the question you really wanted to know the answer to?

I was going to call to find out if they carried it. Distilled water is not typically a common product so I thought it would be easier to call.

OK, well, I don't know that it isn't a common product, as within a very short time, someone posted the exact answer to your question. There are many people who use CPAP machines these days. Regardless, glad you got your answer..

I stand corrected.
It is Maho Market according to the Maho Village website. See below. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />
The name must have changed. I have some credit card receipts from 2007 and 2008 that are Maho Food Express.

There is also a pharmacy at the end of the Maho plaza, just before the Mullet entrance. They should carry the distilled water...?
It's where the Brigitte's (?) boutique used to be....anyone remember that?

We found them on par price wise with Grand Marche. In some instances they were cheaper!

In general I prefer to go to Grand Marche, but have often stopped there at Maho Market <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Laugh.gif" alt="" />, going back and forth to Beachside, and have found their wine in particular to not be a very good price.

Carol,
Since the remodel at Maho Market, with the wines up front, we often find buy-2-get-1-free! Especially on the Casillero del Diablo which isn't a bad white to keep around. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

Wild Bill..you pay for convenience, just as in the US. I like the little place when we need eggs or creamer, or more cheese!

Yes, but Grand Marche has a lot more of buy 2, get 1, and cheaper. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Smile.gif" alt="" />

True, true.....sometimes a wino can't be picky <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />
"we need a white with dinner...QUICK, go to the store!"

Now,..the Côtes de Provence aisles at Simply make me VERY happy! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Joy.gif" alt="" /> With the lower Euro, I see stocking up on many items there on the way home from Orient.

Dont know bout the wine...since we barely drink, but the regular food prices, coke products, water, and groceries are right on par. And, as long as the prices are in line, it makes it easier for us to maybe pay a few cents more for an item. Call it a convenience charge. We have bought a few bottles of rum in the past, and the prices were comparable than anywhere else.

Agree ...we shopped at the Porto cupecoy grocery store for everything ... simply because it made no sense to drive to a Grand Marche and waste beach or pool time ..just to save a few bucks .

Sorry, what do you mean "the Porto Cupecoy grocery store"??? The only grocery store I know of at Porto Cupecoy IS a Grand Marche!! The prices there are the same as the big Grand Marches, supposedly, although I haven't compared them myself.

We have a timeshare at Royal Islander LaPlage. When I figured out that the Maho Market right across the street had hot breakfast items to put together an
a la carte breakfast at a super reasonable price, I was very thrilled. Way cheaper and more convenient than going to breakfast at Tortuga's or the other place at the Sonesta. I usually go to the gym at the Sonesta very early and then head right over to the market to get that breakfast. I grab pancakes or french toast and pile on the bacon !!!
Excellent !!!

..it was my understanding right or wrong that the Porto Cupecoy Marche carried products with higher prices . I did not compare prices , just comments made by other shoppers.

Supposedly the Gourmet Marche stores have exactly the same prices as the other stores for the exact SAME items, according to people on island. Obviously, they do carry a larger percentage of more deluxe items.

BTW. If you're into whisky the Maho Market has the best prices I ever seen for Crown Royal. It was $17 for a 1 litre and I brought home 2 bottles of Crown Royal Reserve at $28 ea. Also the pharmacy has great prices for sunscreen and Imodium!
