We have a very small cooler that fits inside of a rolley bag, that we take on the plane with us. The one and ONLY time that we put meat into a checked bag, the bag went missing and we did not see it for 3 days... That was a mess.

We chamber vac everything perishable and some other items too that might leak. Never had a problem with leakage or spoilage in our checked bags. Ziplocs don't cut it.

If it's vac sealed properly there wouldn't be any smell. I just don't trust any other way.
