Try Jax's in Maho. Had a great filet there in Dec. Will return there this spring.

What Whale Tail said. Jax is very good and would make for a good "special occasion" experience.

The Greenhouse has a prime rib special but I have never had it but a lot of people seem to like it.

Yes the Greenhouse Prime Rib is very good. Have had it many times and always cooked to perfection. I imagine their other steak cuts are equally as good.

I am pretty sure they indicate they use CAB (certified angus beef) and if so, they should be good. I just checked their menu and it does indicate they use Certified Angus Beef.

if you want to venture up to Orient Village ,L'Atelier Bar à Viande et Poisson has great steaks. They import steaks from around the world. We hade a wonderful Australian Wagu last April.

Pretty much all the beef on island is imported. USDA rating used. Mostly Choice. Some Util.

Jax probably has the best steak on the island - but bring your wallet!

Tim--I think Jax gives good value for the money. If you have unlimited money, there is also Bovin. I wonder whether they are actually busy at Bovin, considering the cost there.

I found JAX to be on-par with the better steak places in the US and the prices inline as well. The 8 oz. filet mignon (with sides and salad) at The Pine Club is $43. If JAX current menu price of $54 (with 2 sides but no salad) is still correct, it is not at all out of line. This is not like dining at Outback or a mid-range chain steakhouse.

I read this thread earlier today. Then I got a fantastic T-Bone from the freezer and put it into my sous-vide cooker for tonight's dinner. It is hard to beat the quality and price from Carrefour's butcher section! The ambience of a fine dining establishment is missing on board, but I think I'll make do here in Grand Case tonight smile I'll let a bottle of red breathe and finish the steak on the BBQ with a bit of pepper sauce and some find small potatoes. Life on board a sailboat sure is tough, just like camping

I wish I could find a way to have this forum resize my images!!! The other forums I post on all let me upload my bigger images and then display them to size in the post. Those pics are just too big smile But the pot is actually a large one, that just shows how big that steak really is! I'm getting hungry just looking at the picture, but the sous-vide has at least one more hour to go.

Nonetheless I'm keeping tally of all the steak place recommendations for when I want a nice night out!

Addendum - I found that wordpress stores several formats, so I edited my post and used some smaller images.

Tomahawk chop at Jaxs, plenty of leftovers to make some very good ribeye sandwiches
Pricing in line with a US steak house
complimentary dessert if celebrating something

JAX is very good but not cheap. To be honest, we don't eat steak out a lot in St. Maarten because we bring our own (along with lobster). When I asked the wife what was the best steak she ever had in St. Maarten, she said "the one you grill".

Three best steaks I have had on island would be at: The Palms, Hidden Forest Cafe(a few years ago, pre Irma), and at Moulin Fou. All were Filet's, most every Rib Eye I have had or seen on island is near the thickness of lunch meat.

I prefer the Isle seat

Actually I could. Noise has never been a problem for me there as I understand it is a lively place. Probably had nice music playing in the background.

I don't like a lot of noise at a fine dining place. But like a lively vibe at a casual place.

Can't afford steak here. I wait till we go to the US and my son cooks me a lovely ribeye.

Elaine next to Rolling Shutters in Cole Bay has a place that has a great deal on buying freshly frozen Steaks from aboard . You name it and they have it.

Right!! A lot of people wouldn't think of "PP" for a steak. But our friends said it was one of the best steaks he's had on the island. He's a steak guy!!! Yes, love the music vibe and you can hear yourself while enjoying your company and your meal! I'm a big fan of Pierre! From the very first time I called him( 20 plus years ago!) from the states to make a reservation! That he honored with open arms!! Some people have mixed feelings about "PP", but we NEVER had a bad meal there!! He's a really good person!

I'm yet to gave a good meal at PP. Wife got food poisoning from there shrimp dish one time too. To many great places for us to go to than wasting an evening being disappointed. I did approach the owner there two days later to let him know about my wife getting sick from the shrimp and all he did was shrug his shoulders and act unconcerned. Enough for us. Some people like PP others don't. We are part of the others.

Different people like different places and I have no problem with that. Just makes it easier for me to get a table.

Here's my second yachtie insider tip in just a few minutes. When provisioning and getting our monthly steak order, we go to The Butcher Shop in the dodgy industrial plaza just south of ACE. Really high quality beef at good prices. Order ahead of time at getbutchershop.com and they'll deliver to any dock you wish for $10. While they have a huge variety of cuts, I think the sweet spot for value is the 12 oz New York Strips at $10 each. We also always buy the 8 oz Bush Brothers burger patties as well. Yum.

You use a chamber vac or the kind that sucks air? My chamber vac weighs about 80 lbs and not too portable.
