They sure do have a lot of them and good for the people of the island.
Another ‘nothing going on’ kind of day - breakfast on our lanai and then some serious pool time. Met a couple from Michigan, our neighbors from slightly down the block, and exchanged island war stories which was pleasant. Lunched in our Villa and then some R & R - because we’d had such a very exhausting day so far.
Dinner tonight was at Mary’s Boon. It seemed like a good idea at the time since we wanted to say hello to one of the waiters whom we’ve known for years. It was an okay dinner but the best part was the BBC, the first one I’ve had since we arrived. It was very good……
Things I’ve noticed so far this trip…….
The old Cheri’s at Maho village is under construction, supposedly purchased by he who owns Three Amigos, also at Maho. The rumor is it’s going to be developed with five different restaurants and there’s lots of construction going on there now. Concrete was being poured the other day.
yesterday and the day before the crowds at Maho Beach plane watching were insane. You could scarcely find room to stand on the beach and they were all over the road with little or no concern for the car traffic.
one of our neighbors here at BSV has a rental car with a very sensitive alarm and every day when AIR FRANCE departs it sets off his alarm and he has to come out and turn it off. It’s something you can almost set your watch by.
Last night, for the first time ever, we heard the music everyone complains about coming from the Karachter end of the beach. We were inside with the tv and the airco both on and we could actually feel the thrumming tempo of the music vibrating through the concrete floors here. And come bedtime, even moreso.
it’s been very breezy - borderline windy - and DH was wishing he wore long pants to dinner tonight.
the skies were slightly overcast today and Saba? She be gone again although she was vaguely visible earlier this week. I have it on good authority, she’ll be back.
The super yacht off our beach, “The Rising Sun” was built in 2008 for the princely dum of $400,000,000.00 and has been frequently leased by such notables as Oprah and Leonardo DI Caprio if anybody cares. I think we’ll have to pass……..

Pat--sounds like your Mary's Boon meal wasn't such a good idea, but as usual, you seem to make lemonade out of lemons! I have heard that "music" from toward Karakter on several occasions. Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Maybe last night was an Easter Monday party. Hopefully Saba comes back for you. Last trip we saw her the very first day and then not at all after that! Enjoy! (And you can take some more pictures if you remember. Will be happy to post them..)

MB was okay and the young woman who served us was lovely but I’m one of the few these days who remembers MB in its haydays and loved it back then when every evening was one set menu and the waitstaff dressed in island costumes. It was a much more genteel approach to island dining and not everyone enjoyed it as we did.
The food last night was okay - not great or island awesome but not bad either - but remember, everyone has different preferences and likes and dislikes and couple that with them being out of several items on their already limited dinner menu and I was a bit disappointed. Probably would have been a better choice for lunch……. And it was the end of a long holiday weekend so that also might have had bearing on our experience.

We’ve done many lunches there and all were very good as well. And believe me, dinner wasn’t BAD but just not what we’d hoped it might be. And the parking was easy there which is a major thing to us this trip.

Louise,
They used to have a veal dinner night that was out of this world. You used the honor bar at your leisure and when they announced dinner was to be served you entered into the dining room and from there on it was lovely, - dinner was literally served family style as many servings as you wanted.
But all of that went away years ago and the Boon today has a whole different vibe. Fun and lively and more day-time activity than it had back then. This was even before they started offering timeshare there and I’m thinking, if I remember correctly, before the Cleveland’s bought it. We last stayed there in - OMG - 1995 or ‘96 after one of the major hurricanes. They were rebuilding the main dining room and meals were served in the open air under an awning. It was one more distant menu but another fond one. The Boon will always be a happy memory for me.

Pat,
Count us in as those who, back in the day, enjoyed the delicious Veal Dijonnaise at Mary’s Boon. It was a special night out for sure.
We now enjoy breakfast or lunch there at least once a trip. You can’t beat the location!
