Mike, I haven't been there myself but have talked to people who have. The place sounds like a great place to visit for a number of reasons but especially the people. I think this next picture will be easy (even if you haven't been there).

Sorry Carol, not the canal. However, those tugs look identical to canal boats. In addition to the tugs, there are at least 2 other clues in the picture.

That long pier looking structure and the storage tanks make me think possibly somewhere in Alaska?

Fran, good catch on the clues, but this is a long, long way from Alaska. Carol was much closer although not right next door.

I've seen two beautiful places with ugly oil tanks like that. I think it is either St Croix or Statia. It's my bedtime now so, if I'm right, someone else post a photo.

Mike, you are correct with Statia. If someone wants to post a picture, go ahead. If no one posts, Mike can post something later.

Great photos Kim. I've wanted to go to Morocco since listening to Marrakech Express way back when I still had hair (lots of it!).

Not much in the way of visual clues but since you're in NB Canada I'll guess Cape Breton National Park.

Got me there. When I think salmon I think the Pacific northwest or Alaska.

One more clue then I will reveal..almost 200 years ago the city was all but destroyed by a forest fire
...burning all the white pine ...this in turn ended the ship building era

Based on that clue and it's proximity to you, I'll make one more guess, Halifax?

Very cool. I love history. Sadly, so few today learn from it.

Fran - things aren't quite that bad regarding today's youth and history...

I am forced to recall this statement by a famous person:

“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”

Well, when I was in high school back in the stone age, world history and/or American history classes lasted the whole year. My grandkids now tell me that each is a 6 week course, that's it. Question them on history and they know very little. I certainly don't know it all but...

Fran - That quote in my post came from Socrates. If things had really been that bad we wouldn't have made it this far laugh

That quote has little to do with learning history. I stand by my statement. Anyway, not going to debate this here. On with the game please.

You may be surprised to know that the fountain was built in the 1900s and is made of Bronze
