Good luck on any cash refunds, those that don't go broke are holding on the the cash they have. I am talking about huge companies so can you imagine how the smaller companies are struggling now. I am willing to take some of the pain since this is really everyones problem to share. We did get a small part refund / part credit from a VRBO booking from a owner but then the email from VRBO says because of the backlog and crisis it might take 8 to 10 weeks to process. So they don't even have the money. Airline refunds seem to depend on the airfare you booked as some rules were non refundable at all regardless. If you got one of those so called budget fares you might be out of luck. The good news is the airfare to SXM for the summer and beyond is cheap cheap cheap so we hope to go a few times before the holidays if things improve enough. We saw a fare from Chicago for about $300 rt in July.

You’re optimistic about July. I’m thinking maybe, maybe, this time next year.

Delta and AA seem to be doing cash refunds in a timely manner once you get through or file. My Delta refund (they cancelled the flight) took all of 4 days, still waiting on a United flight that I cancelled and we are a week+ into it and it is "Pending Review". My hopes are not good with United.

Well the Villa owner refused to refund anything and offered up to the end of this year only now to return. Said that was unreasonable under these really extreme circumstances and what if we couldn't go for obvious reasons? Tough poo basically!!!

With reference to airline refunds, I’d far rather have my money in my hands than in their travel banks or vouchers but thinking if you’re dealing with a reputable resort or villa rental, they will probably be willing to work toward whatever resolution you choose. At least I hope they do.

Update...will not refund but will extend our stay up to 24 months time frame. Suppose that's fair

Are you saying now it's only extended to end of year and not 24 months? What villa is this? Good one to stay away from.

Bran, did you rent this villa from an agency, and can they help?

Bran,

If you are unable to get your villa costs refunded or at least a more reasonable extension beyond the nine months already offered, and there is no agent or agency to go to bat on your behalf, I hope you’ll be kind enough to share the property name here for all to see so that other potential renters will be forewarned of the policy.

Respectfully,

pat

Thanks.

Could start a new topic but its resolved..Agent was Carimo Villas and now extended to 18 months. Obviously if health issues arise, will lose out but that can happen regardless of any situation without all risk insurance, which is super expensive. Hopefully, the day to return sooner than later. Back on topic and good news, I received an email from AA that my card has been refunded for the full amount. Plus already had the miles placed back on my card and the taxes refunded for DW.

Glad it all worked out bran. Here's to good health and getting back to the island. I also just got an AA email saying my refund was issued April 1, which was the day i requested it, but does say it may take 7 days to show in my account. I'm pleasantly surprised!

AA and Delta have dealt admirably with this situation, unlike others, like Jet Blue and United.

I agree completely, Carol. AA refunded my money immediately in a phone call that lasted less than fifteen minutes total and JB, after several phone calls and lots of research, refuses to do anything more than a travel bank credit. I will undoubtedly find a way to use that credit but will continue to think long and hard before booking them with my dollars in the future.

Yes Carol, it is refreshing for things to go as they SHOULD, other than the particular agent i talked with when i called would not help me like they did Pat, and gave me a ridiculous reason to boot. AA was good to me after Irma also, getting re booked with no fees.
