INCORRECT. There have been NO CONFIRMED cases as of yet. Several people are being screened. Here is a link LinkSince this has nothing to do with SXM, moving it to the SXM People Talk section.

Saw this on CNN also. No confirmed cases, just precautions to see if 4 affected really have it.

Friends who know people who are on the ship say that they have been allowed to disembark. Others who were planning to stay on the ship for a back-to-back sail have been required to pack up and leave, and the ship will not be sailing out today as scheduled. Guessing they can't get it properly cleaned in time to catch the favorable tide to get under the Verrazano Bridge.

I have to think that they probably will not allow the ship to leave at all until all the suspected people have been confirmed as not infected. Not for nothin' though, who leaves on a cruise from New Jersey in February?? Cold as crap!!

That's to bad. Hope passengers that are continuing on are being put up in a quality hotel until they can continue on their cruise.

LinkAs of now, the sailing is delayed until tomorrow. Frankly this is not the cruise line's fault, so I have no idea whether they are paying for hotels or not. I would think that most people on that ship would be somewhat local, so they could go back home today.

I don't see how you could assume they would be local passengers. Many passengers fly in from all over the United States and other countries to board a cruise for one or more weeks. If it has to do with delaying because of spending more time cleaning and getting ready for departure then it would be the cruise lines responsibility to make accommodations for them. Others would continue on to their flights or other means home if their cruise was finished.

Scubaman--as I said, who the heck cruises from New Jersey in February??? If you're cruising to the Caribbean in February, presumably at least part of the reason is to get warm. There are only a couple of ships going from there and a TON of ships out of Florida and San Juan. If you're going to fly to get on a cruise anyway, why not fly to Florida, which should be WARM in February, as compared to NJ?? And if you want to take a little vacation in addition to the cruise, again, who vacations in NJ in February???? Therefore, my assumption is that most people who are cruising out of NJ in February are fairly local or have some other reason to be in that area and take a cruise from there. Certainly not ALL, but I would say the majority are probably relatively local.

Wrong. Just because a cruise originates in NJ doesn't mean that is where they are spending their cruising time. Many factors enter into what cruise people choose. Many times it's price and or a relocation cruise where they start out from one port and return to another then continue on. Not trying to argue with you but there are different type cruises out there and not all are warm weather cruises.

As far as price, those cruises in general are much more expensive than the ones from Florida, because there are many LESS cruises. And the cruise was going to the Caribbean. And those cruises right now are roundtrip. We are talking about this particular cruise, not cruises in general.

https://www.vacationstogo.com/fastdeal.cfm?deal=22703Bahamas Cruise with two sea days each way. These are mostly for locals as are the cruises out of Baltimore. No airfare, drive, cab, uner and before you know it kind of warm..

We've cruised from NY in Feb. first port was Bermuda. It was a little more expensive, but very convenient.

Bigdaddy--I assume that means you are from the NY/NJ area? Do you have a recollection of where the passengers seemed to be from??

Friends of ours were due to sail today on Anthem of the Seas. They are receiving a two day refund from the cruise line. The ship is scheduled to leave tomorrow night at 10pm. Their hotel for tonight is being picked up by trip insurance they purchased. Biggest problem now is checkout from the hotel is noon and they will have some time to kill.

Thanks for the update. The last I saw, they were going to leave around 1 PM. Wonder why the delay to 10 PM?

What time do they start boarding? They should be ok for a noon checkout and by the time they go through the preboarding process and then board it should be good. We have been on cruises where they left late in evening but took care of us after boarding in afternoon.

Carol, friends who live in North Carolina cruised on Anthem from NJ week before last, so it's not just people who live in the NY/NJ area.

Georgia--surprised at that, but I still think the vast majority on the ship for this cruise leaving today (hopefully!) would be from that area. Originally a cruise from NY to Florida and the Bahamas in February. Now going to be just Bahamas. Yay. Boring!!

9 am update from Royal CaribbeanApparently still waiting for results from CDC. Another update due at 10 AM, currently scheduled to leave at 5 PM for an itinerary with Port Canaveral (??????) then Coco Cay, then return. I guess they are supposed to pick up pax at Port Canaveral? I guess they could go to the Space Coast from there, or a SHORT trip to Disney? And anyone who has ever been to Coco Cay knows that a lot of the time in the winter, they are unable to tender there.

Google really doesn't help too much at this point, as it looks like no new info in the past 24 hours, but the sailing has been put off until at least tomorrow. Apparently there are still no results from CDC. Royal Caribbean says that if people don't show up tomorrow, they will assume that the pax intend to cancel. I suspect at this point that Royal Caribbean is just going to cancel. Some info on Cruise Critic and on Royal Caribbean website.

My friends opted for a refund--didn't want to be in limbo until Monday and then have it possibly delayed again. The ending to the journey got worse when they were stuck on the Verrazzano Bridge for over an hour trying to get back to Long Island!

Tests from CDC came back negative. After all this hoopla, NO Corona virus on the ship. They are going to sail tomorrow for Bermuda. Update from Royal Caribbean

Despite what I said yesterday about taking the refund, if I lived in the NY area, I would take that cruise to Bermuda, which certainly attracts me more personally than the Bahamas EVER would have..

Well my friends got back to Long Island and received an email from the cruise line. They were offered a half price discount on this cruise and another one. So they repacked and went back to NJ. They are on board with a lot of extras in their room to make up for the delays. Let’s hope it’s smooth sailing from here.

I was surprised at your note about them being onboard. But just looked at the latest update and saw they did allow people to board today. Good for them! I hope they have a great cruise, after all this hassle.
