Probably at least an hour. I'm not close to anything. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Take a look at their website sometime. Lots of interesting spices there. http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/shophome.html

Hi Carol,
Are you not able to find Beau Monde? It is a mix of celery, onion and salt and will give that dip the kick it needs.

Beau Monde isn't a specialty item. I find it in the spice aisle at my local grocer. Here is a link to Spice Islands page about the spice blend. Try it!

Good luck! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

I did not look for that. I have to go over to the next largest town over from here this evening, may try to look there.

If you feel the need to add it, why not make your own?

[color:"blue"]Classic beau monde seasoning mix.[/color]

Ingredients:

1 Tablespoon salt
1 Tablespoon ground bay leaves
2 Tablespoons ground white pepper
2 Tablespoons ground black pepper
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 Tablespoon ground allspice
1 Tablespoon ground mace
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 Tablespoon ground cloves

Preparation:

In a small mixing bowl. Sift together the clove, cinnamon, salt, bay leaf, allspice, pepper, nutmeg, mace, celery seed and white pepper; mix well.

Pour into a glass jar and store in a cool, dark place.

Sorry, I wasn't around to answer your question on how long to let the dip sit after mixing it up. I have no idea, but people say things taste better the next day. However, 2 hours should have been fine, IMHO. I looked for the beau monde stuff too, and couldn't find it, and we DON'T live in the sticks! I copied the recipe above for making my own.

Connie--glad to hear it's not just a 'sticks' problem about finding Beau Monde! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

After reading about it on here a couple of weeks ago I tried to find it and I live in a culinary desert here in NC...not to be found here either. I made my own from a recipe I found online.
