Thinking of going to SXM during the summer.(June-early August). I know it will be hotter during these months, but are there other changes? Such as more kids because schools, island and elsewhere, are out? Or more traffic? Or more cruise ships?
(We usually go mid-April thru mid-May).
Any thoughts...opinions or WAG???

We go in June almost every year. Traffic is less than April through May, much less than during the height of winter. You can look at the cruise calendar here, but ships in the Caribbean in general in the summer are ALWAYS less, because some ships go to Alaska and some to Europe. As far as children, many schools don't get out until mid June. When we go in June we don't see many children. By the time you get to August, it gets pretty humid and the chance of a hurricane is always more in August. In June and July, the water is warmer, less people, just about perfect to us!!

We generally go the last week of July and first week of August. It's a little warmer but as Carol said, the water is warmer too. Less traffic, restaurants are less crowded. We really prefer this time of year and maybe we've just been lucky but always had great weather.

we usually go down in July. Hurricane likelihood is minimal. Yes there is less traffic and not as crowded at restaurants. Families usually congregate at hotel pools because of family activities offered. Don't know about Orient, but many beaches are much less crowded, like Cupecoy. Beaches do get more crowded with tourists during the days cruise ships come in. Weather is more humid and the water is warmer. Great shopping in Phillipsburg during cruise ship days if you like the crowds.

We've done July, August, October, January and February. It is terrific/therapeutic to get away during the winter months but the summer/Fall is wonderful. No traffic and more quiet. It is hotter but that is not an issue for us. In October you may have some restaurants closed but it does make decision making easier!
