You probably missed this part of the story. Agence France Presse (AFP) reported that Turquin (68) was condemned in 1997 in Nice for the murder of his eight-year-old son Charles Edouard. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The body of the boy was never found and Turquin had always claimed his innocence. His appeals were rejected, but in July 2006, he was released on parole after serving 10 years of his sentence.

The fact that someone was murdered on the property at Mount Vernon is certainly very concerning. These days when we rent vacation properties, we often have no idea who our neighbours might be.

I think you are replying to the wrong person. I never said anything about the person who was murdered. I was speaking generally about not knowing who your neighbours might be. This is for anywhere you might be renting a property. You do not have to be a bad person to be murdered today. Many good people are murdered too!

No one should leave this world that way and also knowing none of the rest of his story, I hope he is able to RIP. Very nicely stated, pony. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

jamiegarrett761 said: No, I saw that but it says that a body was never found and he has claimed his innocence. Not sure that this is the forum to pronounce guilt or innocence on an old case in a foreign country - that's all I'm saying. I think that perhaps saying that he paid his debt to society would be much better than proclaiming that we don't know the story and that the body was never found (in respect to 1997). I respect the verdicts of my peers in the US and although it is a different legal system I feel that France, having a first-world legal system, should also be afforded that same respect as well (at least by me). No one on the forum pronounced him guilty for killing his son....France did.
