Last evening we went to our favorite French Restaurant - Bistro Caraibes. We were early so we went acroos the street to Ocean 82 for a drink at the bar. Beautiful view but we still prefer Bistrot.

We got a secluded table, around to the right from the entry. Perfect! Of course we began with another round of drinks and great French bread.

We began by splitting the Hot Goat Cheese Salad with smoked Duck Breast. It was great as always and is a particular favorite of ours.

Next we split an order of Lobster Thermador. We have not have that dish before and since it's out last visit we decided we'd better try it. We sure are glad we did. Phenomenal!! So rich, creamy and cheesy!! Even splitting and smallest lobster in the tank we had enough left over that we'll have it back at the condo as an appetizer tonight.

After the Lobster we went light on our Mains. I had the Red Snapper and John had the Scallops. Absolutely perfect and the mashed potatoes! SO creamy!!

We skipped dessert but enjoyed the ginger rum as always! Perfect ending to a perfect evening!

Great idea of splitting the lobster sort of like an appetizer

Even without a food budget, I find the lobster over priced even as good as it is, the best Thermidor on the island (opinion)

After going to Bistro Caribes for so many years the Thermidor novelty has worn off, so much so that we only stopped by last year only to say hello and did not eat there

May reconsider sharing a smaller one as an appetizer and trying to find interesting main courses

Bistro Caribes is another restaurant that doesn't change their menu much and while the food is good, nothing really jumps out off the menu that makes me really want to return, yes this is critical but I eat to live

That being said, we always love the service, hospitality and excellent rum shots at the end

Also it's hard to splurge on them big lobsters after being in Maine a month before where lobster are about 60% less expensive

Always have enjoyed your reports. Thank you.

Will you enlighten me on the martinis? Is the presentation such that the martini is in a glass which then sits
in a glass of ice? In other words 2 glasses?

Thanks

Martinis are served in a martini shaped bowl which then sits in a slightly larger bowl filled with ice. Keeps the martini nicely chilled!

Ocean 82 is somewhat of the exception to the rule, probably because Thibault and Amaury also own part of it, but I have always felt that the restaurants on the 'land' side in Grand Case try a little bit harder, to compensate for no view. Auberge Gourmande, Le Cottage and Bistrot Caraibes has always been some of our favorites, from the very beginning.

Thanks for all your reports!
