HI, training for a marathon and will be sailing for a week (worst possible time in my training plan). Any suggestions on where I can run 10-20 miles a couple of times during a week of sailing? Our captain is picking us with the boat at Beef Island and I suspect we will spend the first night somewhere nearby. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations. Ideally roads and not trails or beach. Thank you!!
Anegada would work out just fine. Everywhere else - not so much. Mountains, narrow roads, fast drivers.
Agree totally! Roads on Tortola and Virgin Gorda are hilly, narrow, and have speedy drivers. Anegada would be perfect with its flat and less traveled roads!
As a triathlete, I agree that running or cycling on the roads in the BVI is just too crazy of an idea for me. Just the hills would make it horrible, let alone the drivers
I would check out some of the gyms and, while I hate running over an hour on a dreadmill, that's what I would do in the main block of training. If I was in the building block, I would use the dreadmill for half the running and swim or use an indoor cycle for the other half.
There is a track (A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground) at Road Town that you might be able to use.
Thank you all very much. I am super stressed out about this, been training super hard for the last 5 months and this trip is 3 weeks prior to my race. I don’t want my body thinking it’s going into taper mode as I should be running 85-90 miles this week. I am going to look into Anegada, maybe I can squeeze in two runs… thanks all…
Definitely Anegada as others have said. Norman Island has some good trails without anything too crazy steep. Most of it is on the ridge with awesome views. You could do some laps to get the mileage up.
Scrub Island has a loop road - used to be dirt and I assume it still is - pretty flat and I’d bet it’s a mile or two at best - I think that would work out really well for you on day 1 of your trip….I’ll trey and see how long that loop road is but it’s flat and has great views…
Anegada is probably the best spot overall.
You could also find a nice wide beach and run back and forth….Josiah’s on Tortola comes to mind.
My marathon friend used it every day he stayed with me and loved it.One hill..two ways down, yes gravel, a few potholes..and Patricia's at the end with ice cold beer and great food..

Never tried it in a three wheel Jeep..mine does fine with its four wheels as did my VW before that.A runner could choose to use the lower road and avoid most of the hills. The road has been cleaned up in my many places.I cant imagine a marathon runner would not enjoy it with a lovely "halfway" point at Patricia's I( great jerk chicken).
The condition of Palm Road (the road to Smugglers) varies drastically from week to week. Back in December, it was in very good condition with just a few potholes. Heavy rains wash the road out severely. Having just driven down it last week, I can tell you that right now it is in very bad condition due to the large amount of rain that we have had over the past few months. It is not a few potholes now. It is more like a lot of elephant traps.
