I just heard that they have demolished mostly all the beach front chalets, maybe a couple left. Does anyone know about this?

Technically, hurricane Irma destroyed the beachfront chalets. The Administrator had a contractor remove the remains of 6 chalets and Papagayo. I think it was last fall. The government, I think it might have been the Coastal Conservatory, required the clean-up.

The hurricane was in 2017.

Yes, Irma did do that back 2017. But a friend of ours that is there now said more chalets have been taken down. Just wondering.

Im hoping the OP is hinting at maybe some additional cleanup beyond the Papagayo job months ago.

Based on what I can glean by reading other posts and talking to people on the island and other guests who enjoy the beach at was once Club Orient, I don't think the government is going to do much to bring back Club Orient in any way in the short or long term. On the upside, it will provide more beach space for those who enjoy the beach au natural.
