I finally had the chance to get into the water—and ended up swimming nearly all day. It was a welcome relief. Kim Sha Beach tends to be calm and still, with very little breeze, so the combination of sun and heat made the ocean feel especially refreshing.
We set up right near the water on the loungers at Buccaneer Beach Bar, which was incredibly convenient. Just a few steps away from the ocean made it easy to cool off whenever the heat got too intense.
For those who haven’t been, if you grab lunch at Buccaneer’s, they offer free chairs and an umbrella on the beach—a great little perk. Being a Sunday, the beach was fairly busy, but they had beach service in full swing: staff taking drink and food orders and bringing everything right to your chair. Still, when it came time for lunch, we opted to head up to the deck to eat.
When lunchtime rolled around, we left our beach chairs and headed up to the deck at Buccaneer Beach Bar. Since our last visit, a new beach bar had been added along the side of the deck, appearing to serve guests on the beach more directly. The addition has slightly reduced the overall seating area. The lobster tank, which had been there previously, was also closed during this visit.
For sides, I chose the rice & beans and a Johnny cake. Unfortunately, the rice and beans were underwhelming—bland and in need of seasoning. The Johnny cake had a lovely golden crust but was a touch too greasy.
David ordered the Philly cheesesteak with fries. The sandwich was generously filled, with well-melted cheese. He was satisfied.
There’s always one day on vacation when I hit “the wall,” and tonight was that day. A mix of too much sun, food, and drinks finally caught up with me. If we had food at home, it would’ve been the perfect night to stay in—but we didn’t.
I’d been eyeing the goat cheese salad with walnuts at the yacht club and wanted to eat outdoors, so we headed over. There was live music— a singer accompanied by a guitarist. He was really talented, and she had a lovely voice tonight. They play every Sunday at the Yacht club. I didn’t catch their names, unfortunately, but the music made for a really enjoyable dining experience.
The weather was perfect—not too breezy—we sat outside nearest the canal. The salad was enormous, with generous portions of goat cheese. I added grilled chicken—plenty of it, though it was a bit dry.
David was in the mood for pasta and went with the seafood medley: a big plate filled with shrimp, mussels, and chunks of fish. He really liked it. One cocktail later, and we headed home.
