Does anyone out there have any experience in Zambia? Specifically the Luangwa Parks. I have this itch to go and have the opportunity. If you haven't read the Owens' books, Cry of the Kalahari, Secrets of the Savannah, and Eye of the Elephant, these are the greatest intro into African wildlife management you can find. (is wildlife management a contradiction or an oxymoron?) If you are just craving a great African and personal adventure story, these will work as well. Nope, I don't know the authors, just admire them from afar. Thanks for any info.

I will check out these books, I like reading about Africa. I have technically been in Zambia, but just across the border- I was on a safari in Botswana and we ended our trip in Zambia. The wildlife and animals in Botswana were absolutely spectacular, so I'm sure it would be the same in Zambia! I have heard good things about their safaris too.

Hi,Thanks for the information I will read these books and hope it will help me in future when I will go there. I don't know exact about it but what I know want to share:
• Luangwa's best park • One of Africa's finest wildlife sanctuaries • Pioneered the walking safari The South Luangwa National Park is the Luangwa Valley's most accessible and popular park. It is 9050km and the concentration of game around the river is of the highest in Africa. Walking safaris: Were pioneered in this park and are still one of the best ways of experiencing the African wilderness. The park has 60 animal species and 400 different bird species. This is one of the premier wilderness areas in Africa, famed for its seclusion and natural beauty. The park is well-known for large herds of elephants: Some herds numbering up to 70. Buffalo and various antelope species are prolific throughout the park. In the river and adjoining pools, hippos and crocodiles can be seen in great numbers. The zebras peculiar to Luangwa can be seen everywhere: their stripes are evenly spaced as opposed to broad light stripes with a faint stripe in-between. Special features of the South Luangwa National Park: • Thornicroft's Giraffe • 14 different antelope species • Lots of leopards • 47 migrating bird species from Europe and Russia • Birds of prey i.e. Steppe Eagles and Buzzards
I hope information is useful!

If you want to glimpse the 'big five' in one forenoon, Masai Mara in Kenya is the location to be. throughout the dry season from July to October the wildlife scene is unparalleled. Nowhere additional can you watch the annual migration of over a million wildebeest from a hot-air balloon. The 'Mara' is as close to "Out of Africa" as you can get.
