I don't know why I struggled with this, it wouldn't work on my cell but iPad seems to have given me the link, I was at my parents yesterday and took a bunch of pictures of pictures I thought you would enjoy. Most are from the Mullet Bay Beach Resort, and also some of Marigot and Philipsburg.
Not the best clarity - maybe someday I will scan them instead of just taking pictures of them.

Ah yes, we remember it well. Our first trip to SXM was in 1984. We stayed at Cupecoy. Must dig out old photos to post.

Thank you! It's lots of fun to see what the island was long before we started visiting.

Thank you for putting them up, Kim.

A few of these, particularly the ones from Marigot of the market place may even date back to the early 70's. No USDA inspection stickers on the marketplace butcher back in those days.......

No they were def from the 83 album, the early 70's album just didn't come out clear. And I was afraid to take them out and ruin them

Thanks for posting! We never really spent any time at Mullet in those days, only stayed on the French side.

It was an amazing place. Especially for 13-16 year olds to run and not get into too much trouble!! wink. I also have an old VHs that mom took, sent it out to be turned into a computer file. Will def preview before I post that!!

"Thanks for the Memories"
It was a quieter and more peaceful Sint Maarten/Saint Martin, but primitive had to give way to "progress".

Our first trip was in '83, going on 45+ now. Things sure have changed since then, in a lot of cases not for the better, but I guess that is called progress.

Thanks for posting pics. About the time I first started going to SXM. I think I sat at that same table at La Vin en Rose.

Every time I go through these albums, I'm always amazed by the huge changes that have taken place across the island, but the differences in Marigot are incredible, not to discount the fact that Mullet Bay Resort and Casino are now totally obliterated. Looking down from the outer balcony at La Vie en Rose it's hard to believe it's the same city never mind the same island. Is there anything in that space today?

I wish she had been able to post some of the photos from the 70's but as Kim said, dismantling those old island albums would probably have destroyed them. Thank you, Kim, for sharing that which I had no idea could be shared.

Thank you so much for posting these. Our first meal on island was at Pinnochios. I thought it was the most romantic place. They lit up the beach in the evening and it was magical.

After I read the comments, I had to go back and look again at the pictures, as I didn't recognize La Vie en Rose. I've dined at that same table too, but the view was much different then!

Last time we drove by, the upstairs was shuttered, and the sidewalk cafe wasn't open either. Year before last the downstairs area was open for lunch.

these are great. it still astounds me how few pictures I have from 'back in the day' when you had to worry about exposure of film through xray and actually having film developed. 2 rolls per vacation seemed normal back then
