Yesterday an AZERBAIJAN AIRLINES Airbus A 340 showed up at SXM. Its still there....on the infield well down the runway.
As this airline does not serve SXM, I'm wondering which one of you chartered this beast for their personal vacation.

Thought I heard that's what Roman Abromavich comes and goes on? Or his "people"? Could be dead wrong

Roman does have a 767 but this A340 is larger than the Donald's 757. No comment re relative hand sizes.

Post the tail number and see where it originated.

Roman has a 767 and a 737 but the one I've seen most in SXM is the 767 ...I think it's P4MES

Per the DH, a Bangelore businessman chartered the plane to SXM for 100 family members and friends to celebrate his 50th in SXM, and on a small cruise ship that was also chartered (from SXM).

Wonder when they are departing. that will be interesting to watch. I watched them turning it around the other day. It was really close to Air France at the time. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />

If it's the same plane, I believe it possibly landed over the weekend? I happened to be looking at the Maho Beach cam and noticed a large inbound plane on the flight radar map fairly early in the morning. When I clicked on it, it came up as an Azerbaijan 340 from GYD with no destination information. It seemed strange, but given that it was inline with the SXM runway I watched it for about 10 minutes until it landed. I also noticed that a scheduled flight arriving around the same time from the US did a quick loop west of the airport in order to allow the 340 clearance.

Dang, all I'm doing for my 50th is spending a week at Le Petit with my husband. Actually, that sounds better than 100 family members now that I think about it! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

A friend of mine from Canada (aviation photographer) is currently on the island & spoke with a contact-word is that it is to depart on Friday sometime between 3 & 6 PM. He sent me a photo of the plane landing at SXM. His work is protected (copyright) so I cannot post it here.

And it has just been moved over to the terminal...perhaps being readied for departure....for Baku?
Very costly to have this 237 seat aircraft on standby all week!!

Maho beach cam is fixated on the plane - guess they also got the memo that it might leave between 3 and 6
Some activity on the plane, but no movement

Me, too. Saw it making the turn out of the terminal area and into the runway and then it was up, up and away. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

It was here last Saturday when we arrived...i took a picture, but didn't get a chance to post it, and ask the same question. It was a very sharp looking aircraft...but also was wondering who, what where and why... smile
