Folks who are planning on traveling to or fro our favorite island from the Mid-Atlantic or North East this weekend may want to keep an eye on the weather. Airlines may begin offering itinerary change options in advance of any significant storm.

Still looking really bad this weekend! Those from the DC area in particular trying to get out this weekend may want to try to get out ahead of this storm! Airlines are allowing changes free.

Thanks, Carol--we have a group of 10 coming down from the DC area. Most were scheduled for Saturday, but now everyone is coming on very early flights out on Friday. Hopefully we'll all beat the snow!

Correct. It also helps with the "backlog" once flights start getting cancelled.

Boston got nailed last year the day before we returned. No flight issues for us but had issues finding the car at PreFlight.

This year we are returning on Sunday (n/s)...sounds similar <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

not supposed to get it that bad up there so you might be ok. You should only get 2 to 3 inches

Aren't you glad you no longer have to worry about it?

Absolutely!!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" /> It's kind of mean, but we here in Florida watch such things on TV and kind of giggle under our breaths.. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

12 departures from PJIA were cancelled today and THAT is with AA leaving two planes and one United here overnight. Should be an interesting day tomorrow when we (hopefully) leave for BOS

We are in the midst of a historic blizzard #snowzilla will likely deposit 30+ inches at Dulles and 24" at BWI. Storm is epxected to continue until evening. Hopefully, the runways will reopen Sunday afternoon. If you are parked in the long-term lots at Dulles, I hope that you drove your front-end loader to the airport.

They said just now on TV there has 'only' been about 14 inches in DC proper. How much at your place so far? ...hope you still have power!!

Carol,
The official snow measurement for Washington, DC is Reagan Airport. Due to some atmosphiric quirk, the snow let up there for several hours in the morning while 10 miles North or West it has been snowing buckets. http://www.weather.gov/lwx/pnsmap?type=snow We have 26" on the ground and are expecting a total of 30". JFK and EWR will have 2' by the time it is over.

Just measured the snow on my deck which is protected from the wind. 22" and it's still snowing as much as it was this morning. It's been years since we have had this much snow in Amishland. And the kidney stones aren't letting me keep up with the shoveling and snowblowing. Can hardly wait until April when we return for 3 weeks. The sun will shine soon I hope!

So far, Boston only has about 2-3 inches.
I have a flight (to Miami) tomorrow, and showing as "on time".

Any updates as to whether they are getting caught up on flights or when they will be? I am to go through CLT to SXM this coming Friday. I haven't heard anything from the airline of any changes and sure don't want to call at this point as I am sure they are swamped. Just wondering if those folks out there going to or coming from the island recently that have been delayed are hearing anything. I heard some that were supposed to travel this past weekend were told they might not get home until tomorrow or Wed. Any news out there?

I think you should be OK, since you already had a confirmed reservation for after the storm. I think that the folks were SUPPOSED to fly down this past weekend and that are trying to come home will be the primary ones affected. I would go into your reservation online and check it though.

Yes I agree with Carol, go online and check the Flight Status. Just because it's listed is not enough. My friend in St Barth's only checked the listing and didn't see that it was cancelled. Check the Flight Status.
Cheers

We were in the JB check in line and in front of a guy that was supposed to leave for NY on Saturday but of course that didn't happen. His family of 4 were being put up at the Sonesta Maho on vouchers (food and hotel) and they told him they would not have a flight until Thursday. He even tried to get to BOS but that was full.

He has to return to the airport daily to get his vouchers.

Well, actually, since this was a snow event, JB did not have to do a D*mn thing for him, in terms of paying for his extended stay. I wonder whether the other airlines are paying for hotel and food also?
