Hi all. I have heard about Kevin for a good taxi driver in St. Thomas and I intend to use him on my next trip in a couple of months. Can anyone recommend a taxi to get 4 of us from the customs dock in RoadTown to the Moorings dock, and back when our charter is finished?

Please consider using TTOL sponsor A.C.'s Taxi Service. Find them on the TTOL sponsors page.

We were planning to rent a car for our first 3 days on Tortola before our charter... to explore the island ourselves. I'm ok with the driving... is this a bad idea? Should i just use a taxi service? we are staying at the Sugar Mill and want to explore Tortola by land first. looking forward to seeing the feedback. thanks you!

Definitely rent a car. 1 roundtrip from town to Sugar Mill is equal to a days rental. Biggest road hazards are scooters and the [censored] moving safari bus. Oh yeah, watch out for the orange T'ing too.

We have rented a car several times on Tortolla and planning to do it again in March. watch the hair pin turns and it is no problem ( for Ward I mean ) I would be scared out of my mind trying to drive but he has no problem.
Enjoy

No problem driving, just take your time. Remember you are driving on the opposite side, so watch your turns, expecially right hand turns as you will have the tendency to cut them too sharp.

Love AC..but a rental car is much better $$$..just take it slow and stay hard left on corners..

It also depends on if you're staying on island, or just want transport at the beginning and end of your trip. Wayne I guess wanted just transport at the beginning and end, which it would be easier to just do a cab..

The Moorings will likely have this prearranged for you (if you provided them your arrival information) with a driver holding a sign standing outside the immigration area.It is at most a ten minute ride.

Stephenr - we rented a car for 3 days in November. It's doable but as others have said, just be careful of the turns. We got a rate of about $50/dat from Alamo. Picked up the car at Maria's by the Sea near the ferry dock. The craziest driving is getting out of road town. You'll be fine after that.

AC is awesome. I've used him a few times.
Rental cars are the most economical way to go if you're exploring the island. As Kim said, the roads are a little curvy and you must remember to drive on the left side of the road. I don't find either to be a problem but it makes some people quite nervous. Donna is always happy to let me do the driving.
