This year we have a very large group coming to the Royal Palm -22ppl. We know dinners out will be a challenge and we're hoping to BBQ once or twice. Has anyone purchased hamburgers, hot dogs steak etc on island- if so where, or do most bring from home? Also does anyone have any recommendations of restaurants that would accommodate a large group, or one that we could make reservations in advance??? TIA

You can definitely purchase anything you want to on island. It will be more than at home, but not substantially more. For that large a group, unless you check a large suitcase, I really don't think you should even consider trying to bring stuff from home, as it will be a drop in the bucket.
Regarding places to buy groceries on island, for a large group, you should consider Cost U Less, which does sell in bulk. Not necessarily for meat, but for soda, etc., etc. As far as grocery stores in general, as of June of this year, Super U in Marigot seemed to have the best prices for meats on sale and wine was available for just stupid cheap prices.
As far as restaurants, 22 is a really large party for ANY restaurant on island. No way you should consider going anywhere without a reservation, which I assume you already know. If you are looking for a place with a large variety of different foods--including upscale French-- for that large a group, I would recommend Dreams, in Nettle Bay. For someplace that serves a wide variety in a real casual setting, would recommend Pineapple Pete. I would also recommend that you check out Captain D's, which is right by Royal Palm, and get several orders of carry out, as they serve great BBQ for a cheap price.

And Royal Palm has added some really nice gas grills for your use. They are maintained and cleaned each day.

Yes Sharon, we own there and love the grills!! We usually bring our meat from home, but because of our large group we thought it would just be easier to buy burgers there! I see we live very close to each other- I have a ton of family in Commack!

What about Greenhouse? The one in P'burg looks large enough to accommodate with rsvp. Don't know if the Greenhouse in Simpson Bay is as large.
Enold's in Grand Case has room for 22. It's casual caribbean food inside, on porch or on the beach. I've seen boat tours stop there and they have large amount of people. But rsvp.
Sol e Luna in French Cul de Sac, has garden seating that would handle 22 people. Inside has mostly small tables. It's very upscale expensive but delicious food. Maybe once during the trip. You won't be disappointed.

Prime in Cole Bay has great prices for large quantities of food.Their mix prices are good too.Wine seems to be cheapest at Super U in Marigot and it's just down the road.

Jac44Ny - We hosted a BBQ at the Divi for 20+ - lots of room for your party- down by the beach - live island show included - see Ray's photos of the party - =================== LINK =================== Of course you would save on the costs by doing it yourself without the live show - prices are not bad at all food shopping in the larger markets - Enjoy!

It's in the Howell shopping center where Super Marche Match used to be.

We bring a small cooler on wheels, and a zipper closure. We pack it with ice packs and everything is still cold when we get there. I was inquiring about buying meat because now we have to pay for that cooler as a bag. Might as well just buy the burgers there.

Lee's Roadside Grill could also accommodate a large group.
I read on Ttol awhile back that Enold had sold and a different restaurant had opened in its place.

Yes, Enold's is no longer and a new restaurant is in it's place. As far as cooking in, we do a few times per trip, and purchase all of our meat from Cost U Less. We go right to see the meat cutter, and get our steaks cut to our liking. Nice selection of veggies also. So, for a groupe of 22, that is what I would do.
Prices are very much similar to the U.S.

I'm blanking on where Cost-U less is......... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> Is it behind the Harley dealer? Or am I thinking of Prime?

As Bobcat said, the Cost U Less is across from Mark's and Grand Marche. Yes, and Prime is behind the Harley dealer.

Marc--did you check out Super U when you were there??? They have really excellent prices, especially on meat on sale, and their meats are very good.

Yes, for sure, please do check it out. No reason to go all the way to P'burg from Club O any more.
