Can anyone confirm that their is a new food market by round about near Mc Donalds on the French side of the island ? We were told they do equal exchange on the dollar to euro.
Supposedly they have great produce, meats, and cheeses at resonable prices cheaper than other stores on island.

Marty at The Dream Pool bar told us about the place a couple weeks ago. He said that it has a very good meat selection. I can't remember what it is called and we never ended up going there.

I know we went through there in June and I sure don't remember seeing it. I must not be very observant! Will be interested to hear your report.

Maybe I am mistaken about which McDonalds Irish was talking about. The only McDonalds ON the French side is in Marigot, basically right next to the Super U which is where Match used to be, in Howell Center. Maybe that's the grocery irish is talking about. Super U is GREAT, yes! I thought Irish was talking about the Mcdonalds by the roundabout which is still on the Dutch side, but very close to the French border.

Odd comment though, about it offering 1:1 if it's on the Dutch side. The other McDonald's isn't near a roundabout though.

I think they have to be talking about the McDonalds in Marigot and the Super U, as the Super U does to 1 to 1. We paid cash there, so don't know if it's only 1 to 1 for cash, or for credit cards also. That's why I was confused, as the McDonalds in Marigot is not close to a roundabout and the other one is right by the roundabout just before the French side.

Yes, Super U is the name of the store that I was thinking of. I don't know Marigot so by the time I was going by a McDonalds it was too late to look for the store! I was told quality and pricing are both good there.

But the OP is definitely talking about a NEW food market. Super U isn't new, is it?

I'm guessing it's the newest large supermarket on the island. "New" is kind of relative..

OK, I didn't realize it was even remotely new. We never grocery shop on the French side, although I always say I'm going to. As much as I love to cook, you'd think I'd want to try some new ingredients while we're there. Sand gravity....

That's the one I was thinking about but it's not on the French side. It's close to the border though. We drive by every day when we go to Orient Beach from Simpson Bay.

Could the place have changed names so would be considered "new"? I am not sure about this place but know that is the one that Marty mentioned to me. I had never heard the name mentioned before, which actually means nothing! lol

Match was in that same location for YEARS and years, since the 90's, at least, and then it was closed for a while and then I think it was something else--Simply, maybe? Super U has been there a relatively short period of time.

There is a roundabout on that road to the north. It is fairly close and is the one where the traffic from Sandy Ground meets the main highway.

We were out and about today and the "NEW" store has replaced the old Match store from years back and is now called Super U. In fact it is by the new Mc Donalds in Marigot right by a round about and not by Mc D's by Orient beach.
We did some shopping and memories from the past of this past store do not resemble what's there now. the WOW factor is in place.
At 11 AM this morning the store was crowded with busy shoppers. There is a match euro to dollar weather it be cash or charge. There is a great selection of mostly European products but prices are cheaper than local completion.
There is also a smaller same concept store in Grand case next to the Simply grocer and does not do dollar to Euro match. we loved the new Super U and will return several times on this trip.

OK, I thought eventually you were talking about Super U, but I never thought of that store as really being that close to a roundabout, but it isn't far. Glad you found the store, as we really enjoyed it there when we were there in June.

Yes, there is a McD's @ roundabout near border or Dutch/French....near French Quarter/Oyster Pond area. There's a Fresh Market down the road that quite reasonable. We shop there quite a bit because of it's convenience plus very good produce.

My daughter was down first week in June and although she does not remember the name of the new market but you go over the new bridge and stay to the right it is by the bank. She said it is great! Better whole food choices than we have in Florida!

Cole Bay Grand Marche over the new bridge. Market Garden across from Royal Palm is more like Whole Foods. Manager said it was modeled after them.
