How can I find out when the 747s arrive on SXM to view them from sunset beach bar? There wasn't much info on their website.

How's the beach and food there? Just want to experience it once, if only for an hour or 2. Thx.

Go to flightstats.com put in sxm as the airport and pick the day and time frame for arrivals and it will show all the flights coming in.

The only 747 coming into SXM is KLM. It is currently just 3 days a week (Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays). Air France flies in an A340-300 4 days a week (Wednesdays, Thursday, Saturday, and Monday).

In our opinion the food there is average at best. We have had there hamburgers and ribs and we would not write home about them.

The beach can be good or can be nonexistent. Sometimes the tides takes the sand out and sometimes it brings it back. Usually there is enough beach to sit there and enjoy the landings.

Thx all. KLM arrives later this AM. Are the beach and food better at Karakter? Thinking about going to Sunset for the plane and then Karakter for beach and lunch. Thx.

YES! I'd grab a drink at either Driftwood or SSBAG while you're watching the planes, then head over to Karakter for a nice beach and an excellent meal.

Sounds like a plan, we go to Sunset for a few drinks and maybe some snacks, beach was almost non existent two days ago. Have only seen one cruise ship go by so far this AM. Had drinks at Driftwood one night thought it was happy hour and they said no. Still 3 bucks a beer not bad. Sunday night live band at Sunset and it was fun, had drinks, watched the AA come in then went to dinner in Maho. You could also have drinks at Sunset and continue to White Sands or whatever it's now called instead of Karacter and not make the drive back around the airport.

Driftwood and Tortuga are both good for lunch. Not congested and you can watch the planes come in. (As others have said limited parking at Driftwood.) Planes usually come in during the afternoon. SSBG is ok but unless you are on the beach you really won't really see the planes come in from the tables. Maybe have lunch prior, go for a couple drinks and watch the "show"!! At Karakter you will see planes that have already landed but has a good atmosphere.

Would hate to have you "waste" a day or half a day at SSBB watching the planes when you could go to a better beach. Don't know when you're leaving, but we always get lunch there on our last day and watch the planes for a couple of hours and then head to the airport. We check our bags earlier in the morning and just have our carry on with us. Works for us.

Just left Sunset and sitting on the plane. Had tuna ceaser salad and a bucket of Amstel Bright watched the KLM take off and an Insel Air, which is always fun when it's a local pilot blasting the fence hangers into the sea!!! Quick service and no problem catching a cab to the airport

Caught the KLM 747 this AM. Fun to see - big crowd, minimal beach.
