Last trip we had a 444 Catamaran from SunSail leaving out of RoadTown Tortola. We left on a Sunday and returned in Friday by noon. We overnights on Cooper, Bitter end, leverick, Anegada, marina cay.

This trip... Same 444 cat leaving road town may 3...
Trellis bay Fullmoon party may4th...
What rotation of stops should be good to get to trellis on 4th and Anegada for sure... Any great ideas????? Thanks

Just got off the 444 a couple of weeks ago with the same issue for Trellis and the FMP. We were coming back from Anegada the day of the FMP and knew it would be dicey getting a ball by the time we got there. We reserved a spot at Scrub Island marina and took the free ferry over. Will cost you about $150 for the night but saves you the trouble of having to get there early and losing the whole day. Ours was a mid-trip stop though and everyone was ready for a nice shower so it really made sense.

I would stay at Cooper the first night after a Rhone or Indians stop and hit the Baths the morning of the FMP in that scenario (if desired), knowing that my spot was reserved for the night for the FMP. You could easily hit the Baths from Leverick too in a car if that's your preference but we like to catch it on the way by from Cooper.

Not sure how many days you have but with a favorable east wind you could easily jump to Anegada from Scrub or Trellis the next day on a close reach or close hauled. If NE wind, go to North Sound that night and head to Anegada from there. From Anegada, sail to Monkey Point for a stop and head to CGB or JVD if you want to hit those places. It appears you stay mainly on the East side of the islands based on your previous overnights and not sure how many nights you will have.

Would be happy to weigh in further if I knew how many nights you had and your priority locations.

We are leaving from RoadTown same day as you guys are. I was thinking Full Moon party was May 3rd so without a slip at Scrub we would be too late.. So we had planned to spend first night at Norman or Cooper and then make our way to North Sound overnighting at Leverick. We are a group from Tyler on Lagoon cat "Mardi Gras" so let me know your boat name since we may cross paths...

He said he reserved a dock space at Scrub.

It would be nice if you could reserve your mooring buoy in Trellis for the FMP. I didn't want to arrive at Trellis first thing in the morning or the night before just to go to the party. I realize it is a big event but I am not a party animal and would rather spend my time on and in the water.

The ferry captain did seem to have some trouble and manage to slam a few boards off the dock at Scrub and the cap off of one his outboards so that could be an adventure as well. I know some people who have taken a dinghy over from Marina Cay but that can be a dicey trip as well in the middle of the night after a few cold ones.

The reservation at Scrub worked extremely for our situation and the ladies loved being able to get ready on dry land for the party.

Not to mention that the Scrub marina heads and showers are decadent. The staff are great there. But, the marina is shallow and bouncy and the guests were not friendly for our visits. I think we would enjoy Scrub more if we were there with some of our imaginary friends from TTOL.

Cheers, RickG

Here's what I'm thinking....
3may... Provision boat, check out with SunSail. Leave for trellis bay. Pick up a ball at trellis or if too late then Marina Cay. Full moon party
4may...early start to JVD great harbor
Soggy dollar, foxys
5may... Head to Anegada
Cow wreck & Loblobby
Lobster at Anegada hotel
6may... Head to Leverick bay
Taxi to baths
7may...salt island to snorkel Rhone
Then to Norman island
Night, Caves, willie t's
8 May... Snorkel Indians and then back to road town to SunSail...

Midland,

The main problem I see with your itinerary is the leg from JVD back to Anegada. That will be a very long and rough sail most days requiring some tacking against current and wind. Would be tough to get there in time to enjoy Anegada in my mind. Not that it can't be done but would be a minimum of 4 hours on the water I would say in good conditions but big swells and a NE wind would make it a full day on the water.

I would suggest Anegada after FMP the 4th from Trellis...
Leverick the 5th.....
Salt and Rhone the 6th on the way to JVD (also a long haul but shorter than JVD to Anegada and all of it with wind and seas helping you instead of hurting you)...
JVD to Norman the 7th for caves and Willie T's....
Indians and Roadtown the 8th

Others might have suggestions but I think this is more favorable for your crew, making your longest day one that you're not fighting the conditions across one of the longer sails from one BVI island to another.

Just my $0.02

The above is very good advice. It's possible to sail from Jost to Anegada in comfort if you get lucky and the wind clocks around to the ESE which is rare. If it's E or even worse ENE then it's a very long day. 30 miles on a 050 heading being set down by both the wind and current.

Cruzdoc ... If I motor with my cataraman and not sail... Then will that cut the cruise or travel time in half?

If you are going into the wind motoring will cut the time in half plus some. If you are on a beam reach it might add time. If you motor the leg from Jost your looking at about 5 hours. Leave at 7am and you will be there at noon. If however you have the prevailing wind blowing 15 knots it will not be a comfortable trip if you have novices onboard.

not at all, unless it's a power cat, you cut some time, but you will still get beat up

Midland....the problem will be that you will be on exposed route with nothing to block the wind or the swells which you will take straight on the bow most of the way. The Yanmar engines on the 444 are only 55 HP I think. I'm sure the power cats are bigger but I agree with those above that it will be a lengthy trip and will likely be beat up the whole way.

You could get lucky and get more favorable conditions but the percentages are certainly against you. I'm usually not the lucky.

I've done that trip from cgb. Not fun. You do get beaten up. By the time you arrive, you probably won't find a mooring.

I like it!

Assuming you have to be in by 11:00 the last day so probably need to motor to the Rhone the last day depending on when you get started to give you enough time, but I like your revision better than the one I suggested above.

We are doing very similar itinerary Gasman minus Anegada. We may see you in Great Harbour on 6th and Norman on 7th.
