So, is there a House of Corrections on St Maarten or do they outsource that? Seriously.

That's enough to encourage these punks to continue with their careers! What the heck is 18 months.

It has been my understanding that if you commit a crime on the Dutch side and are convicted you would go to Pointe Blanche prison. If convicted on the French side you would be sent to the prison in Guadeloupe. This was told to me by a native St. Martiner. Has this changed?

Yes, John, you are correct. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> Sorry.. ..although the person asked about a prison on ST. Maarten, which is the Dutch side, so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Though the article itself confuses the terms- they were convicted of burglary not robbery. Robbery is theft with the threat of violence or committing violence. Burglary is theft by breaking into a place. In the US, burglary usually gets you 2 to 4 years depending on amount taken and other factors. So it is not out of line that much , it would be for Robbery however as happen at the Supermarket.

so that's 1 month per robbery, when he gets out he will have a free pass to commit 3 more robberies. someone should go to the hardware store and buy some rope for this guy.

Yes and we've driven up to it. Those prisoners have the best view!
