Need some advise on connection times at the Miami airport.

Flight from SXM arrives at Miami at 6:10

Connecting flight leaves at Miami at 7:50

Is this enough time to clear customs and security?

thanks

Honestly, to me, Miami is really getting to be a pretty user friendly airport. Looking forward to that free wifi also!!

Interesting app but what then is the purpose of Global Entry??

It sounds like you create a profile/pic in the app and then scan it on arrival...

No DHS interview, no need for fingerprints on file (and used for ID at the kiosks), save $100

What is the difference from the self-service passport scanners now available at some airports??

Doesn't sound too secure unless I am missing something. Huge potential for using the app of another person if your looks are similar

The self-service scanners (not the Global Entry scanners) are slightly different from GE. Also, you must still wait in line and be allowed through by an agent. With GE, you just hold your passport and printed form over your head, and walk past the agent at the designated GE window. At least that's the way it is in CLT.

Maybe I do not understand the self scanner/app kiosks but how do they know that the passport entered (or app scanned) belongs to that traveler? I don't consider Waiting for an agent to direct you to a terminal as a security check...

...and I have never held anything over my head after the GE form is printed. I just hand it to the agent collecting the forms and move on...sounds like GE will be pointless soon.

...and sorry for hijacking the thread

The self scanner kiosks take a PICTURE of you, as you insert your passport. Often the scanner won't accept the picture though and you have to stand in line. In December, the scanner accepted my photo but not Eric's, so we had to stand in the "x" line.

So they are similar to the GE kiosks without the fingerprints, interview and $100

Sort of, I guess, although we don't have GE.

I used the device in Miami and it kept rejecting my photo. I told a customs agent and he said to take off my glasses. Voila!

So, is the consensus that there is adequate time difference between arrival and the connecting flight?

Sorry, we all went off on a tangent!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Blush.gif" alt="" />

It could be tight, yes, depending on how many other planes come in and whether your plane is late, and if you have checked bags. If you don't have checked bags, it should be a breeze. The last couple of times we have come through Miami, we have gotten through security quickly, but had to wait for bags.

We will NOT have checked bags.

I think we will give it a shot

I guess the worst that happens is we spend the night in Miami!

With no checked bags, I think you should be fine, unless your inbound flight is late. Those kinds of things, you can't really plan for.

The hotel at the airport is ok. small rooms but clean. You may have to take baggage to room if you do not make connecting. The bar just behind reception is nice. They will take meal orders there. Have done before on late arrival.
