Some may remember that I started a thread back in September asking for feedback into a survey I was planning to pull together (where did the time go). I received lot of great ideas and recommendations from the TTOL community - thank you.

The survey is intended to collect information from those of you who own sailboats (not powerboats) kept in the BVI and USVI waters and NOT currently in a charter company program. In short, you're on your own to manage all maintenance, storage, repairs and other details. The survey will take a little time to complete if you answer every question, but I wanted to include as many of the questions that were requested from other TTOL'ers.

I've posted this in the BVI Forum instead of the People Talk since the survey is specific to recommended vendors and such in that area, and I didn't want this to be just a general discussion about yacht ownership.

I've opened up the survey, which you can access by visiting this link.

I will plan to close the survey on March 1st and then post the results back to the TTOL forum. I will also email it to those people who respond to the survey and request an emailed copy.

Thank you in advance for your feedback and help turning other people's "dreams" into "goals"!

Thanks to the six owners who have responded to the survey, so far. I'll leave it open for a couple more weeks to see if others respond before posting the results. Thanks.

I know your intentions for the survey are good but it seems a bit intrusive. Google has its nose in this and will be storing more personal info on individuals.

Tracking your IP address on the google form is probably much less revealing than showing your IP address (107.72.162.31) on each of your 1536 TTOL posts.

I'm in. Seeing others' responses is more than worth the small amount of info.

We don't own a boat there at this time, but are beginning the thought process of whether it might make sense to or not. I'm looking forward to the results. They will be very useful in the planning process. Thanks for posting the survey - and thanks to those who responded.

Totally agree with Matt as we are in the same boat (unintentional pun on words LOL). Can't wait to read and learn from the results.

I am also interested in the results as we are trying to put a small partnership together for a high end boat.

Thinking bout lawsuit leaving out powerboats.. smile. Had a trawler with TMM for 9 years... Great experience both in using our boat and financially.

Somewhere in the middle of that adventure we bought a condo on Virgin Gorda with a partner.

Luckily we found a buyer for the trawler and Tuesday we go down to see our new boat..a. Glacier Bay 2740 cat. Looking forward to the next adventure. Tis all good? Thanks for doing the poll.

I believe it's safe to close the survey. Thanks to those who volunteered their information and experience with the intent to help others! Please click on the link below and then follow the instructions/button to download the survey results in MS Excel format. I only ask that if this information helps anyone purchase a sailboat, I may be invited aboard for a couple of days. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

thanks very much for doing this, TackingAg. I found it very interesting.

The $500k boat with liability only insurance is a curious play, but to each his or her own...I'd be curious to find out that rationale...
