We are looking for a quick meal to pick up for our arrival day in SXM. We like to get all the hard stuff done the first day, so we go to BSV and drop off bags and head immediately to Carrefour. Then we pick up something for dinner on the way home. The last couple of years, we have done Mark's, which is OK, but wanting to try something different. I have been wanting to try Pollos Hermanos for a while. How does it work there? Is it basically a carry out place? How long do you have to wait for your food?

Any other suggestions? Not interested in Captain D's, as it hasn't seemed to be nearly as good lately.

I usually either call ahead or order online/Whatsapp. We always carryout. They ask and sometimes call you right back after ordering if you Whatsapp to make sure you are ordering from the correct location. Petty easy.

Is there a different location? Thought there was only the one.

We usually get a quick lunch to take back to Oceans Edge from here. Doesn't take long and has always been great!

dmarie--so, you do have to wait for the food, if you don't pre-order? BHK--what's your definition of "doesn't take long"??

I've only been the Phillipsburg location. Yes, you do need to wait, but it's 15-20 mins. Only once have we not ordered ahead and I waited in the car with 2 kids and I don't remember them complaining. Good sign smile

OK, 15-20 minutes. Huhm. Do they serve wine?

OK, thanks. I guess we could do that, I was just hoping to go somewhere that we wouldn't have to wait much at all.

Any other suggestions for a quick carry out first day dinner?

Lal does a good to go business. I would suggest some Chicken Tikka, Chicken Tikka Marsala or Spinach Chicken, along with rice and garlic nan. Might even double the Chicken Tikka to have for the next day.

La Chingona is up in Jordan Village, their burritos to go are a winner.

Both options above are a bargain and good. We did like Pollos Hermanos as well, but it doesn't draw us back.

I prefer the Isle seat

Todd--Eric doesn't care for curry. Is there parking close to La Chingona? I don't really know where it is.

Sometimes it's easy to grab a rotisserie chicken or charcuterie from the grocery store for the first meal especially if a long travel day.

Market Garden has a rather large buffet for carry out.

Not your typical buffet. You load a take out box and pay by the pound or they'll serve it for you in a box and you take it way. They also have premade wrapped baguette sandwiches. Have bought those to take to the beach before.

Carol - If it were us, we would pick up supplies at Carrefour return to BSV and then have dinner at D's Beach Bar. A short beach walk for you.

I dont remember much of a wait at all for chicken and sides. Kind of like a KFC wait time. Maybe a few more minutes. We have hit on the way to the Boon before.

Another place is Little Jerusalem. I believe they have wine. About the same wait to prepare. When we want to be filled up for cheap, this is a good place.

I never order ahead at Pollos and don't think I've ever had to wait as long as 20 minutes. I've never ordered drinks there but have heard raves about them from some who have. I think their wings are especially good but I've ordered a whole fried chicken several times.

Carol, they have a full bar — we’ve had cocktails there before. We’ve dined in and done takeout. When we ate there, we sat outside — the staff was super friendly and we thought the food was pretty good. I got the rotisserie chicken with sides. For takeout I picked up wings, I thought the wings were just okay.

I think we have decided to try Pollos Hermanos some other time, if it works out.

Whale Tail--I think as of now, we have decided on a variation of that. Go get our groceries, come back by D's beach bar and order, go on to the house and put away stuff. Then send Eric back over to pick up carry out.
