I made my usual stop by The Horny Toad to see the owners and drop a gift off for Cheri, one of the maids who has been there a long time.
I was then informed that Betty (formerly Vaughn), the former owner/manager had passed away on Feb. 10.. For anyone who knew Betty, she was an incredibly special person who was always a pleasure to be around. We met Betty and her late husband Earl many years ago and enjoyed many stays at The Horny Toad. My wife and I enjoyed dinner with Betty a few times years ago when she was still running The Horny Toad. Betty had remarried and moved back to the states and had entrusted management of The Horny Toad to her daughter, Debbie and her husband Doug. Betty would have turned 89 on Feb. 15. She was surrounded by her family at her passing. May she Rest in Peace.

Sorry to hear that. I know that she was a wonderful part of old St Maarten.

My heart dropped when I saw the title of this thread. I never met Betty although talked to her several times trying to get a reservation. Glad to hear the bad news isn't about either Debby or Doug.
