Finally returned to the Riviera Maya after traveling to other areas for two years. The natural beauty of the area is amazing. But the caring nature of the people here are what we missed most! Just a wonderful culture, and we were so happy to see friends we’ve missed.
A great new option for getting around the Peninsula is the Tren Maya. This new system enables passengers to experience the natural and archaeological wonders of the Yucatán Peninsula via the convenience of rail. And to experience the smaller communities and family-owned accommodations in those areas. The new train service from PDC south is still in process. There is of course concern about destruction of jungle areas with the construction, and the expected influx of more visitors. But what a great way to experience the states of Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Tabasco, and Chiapas!

Is it priced as local public transportation (reasonable) or a tourist train (expensive)?
Thanks

Both - As with the ferry system and other facets of life in these tourist areas residents (locals) have reduced fares. But even the tourist ticket prices are not terrible…
The beauty of Tren Maya to visitors (foreigners) is the ease of exploring the many archaeological sites and less-visited areas of the Peninsula and experiencing those areas on a more personal level. There are also luxury/premium sleeping cabin options for those wanting that…
