Does anyone have an update on the progress of construction at the parking lot and tunnel?

The entire north lot at Haulover is closed for the construction of a new boat storage facility and launch ramp. This will take until mid 2015 to complete so for the time being you have to park in the next major lot south Lot #1. Not the main boat ramp but the one south of that. The entrance is just south of the new lifeguard facility with the tower facing the beach.

As a result the population of the beach has flipflopped. The southernmost fence is now where the most people gather because it is closest to the central parking lot. The south end is now equivalent to how lifeguard station 15 used to be. The farther north you go the less populated it is until you get to station 16 at the north end where gay guys and women who don't want to be around men hang out.

Unfortunately the showers are still up by station 15 so if you want to wash off the sand from ALL of your body you have to trek up there still. If you feel adventurous you could use the ones right in front of the new lifeguard hq I guess.

They also raised the parking fee to $7 on weekends and holidays. It's still $6 on weekdays.

There's more info at SFFB web site.

Still working or not working on it. Bad project management here. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cloud.gif" alt="" />

Their website says the dry dock storage project has been delayed. Right now, the north lot is just a big empty dirt field with no work being done. There's plenty of parking in lot 1 though.

Last week they finally started to lay the pipe under A1A, which will continue into the north lot. They completed two lanes in two days, and we're hoping the next two lanes get done quickly as well. The lot itself looks the same as it has for months.

Just as an FYI, the north parking lot at Haulover has re-opened (nicely re-organized, too).

Huh? There can't be much space as I saw the fence and construction mess a week or 2 ago driving by and it didn't look like there was anywhere to park even if they did open it.

I wouldn't get your hopes up of actually finding a space even if the north lot is open. You can park in the northern section of the huge lot and from there it's not much farther to the south end of the nude beach than from the north lot. I have a feeling they might just leave it this way permanently since the new "main" area is closest to the new lifeguard station and all. Plus it pulls the largest population of the nude section away from the high dollar condos which gives them some political breathing room.

There are plenty of parking spaces. About 200+ and more to come when the boat storage facility is finished. And, no steps to climb when coming out of the tunnel!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />
