After a couple years of customs literally being a walk-through, our recent arrival was anything but that. Several NG's are lined-up randomly directing folks to a new inspection area where there are several tables and Guardsmen/women inspecting luggage. Our inspector was extremely (painstakingly) thorough, going through every piece of clothing, electronics, prescriptions, etc in our 8 bags intent on finding something amiss. He was also trying to throw us off with questions as he searched , which we got a chuckle from a few times...His supervisor was even more serious and took a closer look at our prescriptions, and even started reading our documents related to our home here. We then questioned them both why they were reading personal documents, and they finished up and sent us on our way.
We saw many others from our flight being searched and interrogated around us. I know there is an initiative to crack down on illegals ands digital nomads, but this was totally unexpected...
Just an FYI...
