After lunch in and a day at the pool, we decided to go to Greenhouse for dinner. It was quite full but we got seated at a nice table with a good view of the water. We sat there 15 to 20 minutes with wait staff frequently passing our table with not a word or glance to us. I finally got frustrated enough to look at the wife and say.....let's go to Lee's. So we got up and headed out. We were asked why we were leaving which we nicely explained. They apologized but the damage was done. We will go back as we like the food and view....but hopefully on a night when they are less busy and not so preoccupied. It ended up being a good change of plans. Wife had the ribs which she very much enjoyed (had so many she took 4 or 5 home). I had the grilled mahi which was one of the best pieces of fish I have had on the island and a very generous portion. My wife complimented the cook as we were leaving and he said the mahi was swimming in the ocean that morning. Not sure if true but it sure tasted that fresh. With a bottle of cheap wine and tip, the total came to just under $80. We would have spent much more at Greenhouse and it would not have been any better. A very enjoyable evening.
Lee's is pretty consistent. Ate there this last Saturday for first nights dinner. We both had ribs. I like their rib as they aren't the fall off the bone type. My wife not so much as she prefers fall off the bone like Mark's does. To each their own.
The Ribs and Mahi look perfect. (It does help to have pictures.)
We have had the same problem at The Greenhouse. They are so busy, despite the parking issue. The grouper filet, that was once so good, has turned into two of the sandwich pieces. We do like them, so have to plan going there after the initial rush is over.
As i have posted many times, Lee's ribs are among the islands best. We went twice over our three weeks. for 15 bucks, it is a FABULOUS time. The view from Lee's is not as impressive as they old place, but the food is just as good as ever.
We went to The Greenhouse last November. We also got seated at a table with a good view of the water. Then like you CaribLee, we waited and waited and waited. Even when the waiter came over and took our order we hardly ever saw him. There were maybe five tables filled, at least two other wait staff working and we still couldn't get ketchup for hubby's fries (had to walk over the to kitchen and ask the cook), another napkin (found one in my purse) and another drink (we gave up). We waited forever to get the bill and then after 15 minutes of waiting to pay him, we finally walked to the bar to settle up. Just as we were leaving he came running out of a door near the back of the restaurant and waved to us. And no, he wasn't pulling double duty as chef because he wasn't in the kitchen when we had to walk back to get the ketchup.
We love Greenhouse and will probably go again next trip but to tell you the truth, we've never had a good waiter/waitress experience at The Greenhouse.
During our recent trip we ate at The Greenhouse 4 times and each time the service was great. Each time we had reservations and were seated right away and the cocktails arrived right away. Maybe we just got lucky 4 times in a row but we've had our share of bad service everywhere and I have felt like walking out more than once.
Thw only ones who got lucky o our last and final visit to Greenhouse we're the two dogs on site that got to reap the benefit of not fit for human consumption rib eye "steak" that I paid $42.00 / EA. To the Greenhouse Restaurant.
SXMBND--why in the world would you agree to pay $42 for a ribeye steak at the Greenhouse??
We have almost always had great service and decent food at the Greenhouse, but recognize it for what it is. There is no way ANY entre at the Greenhouse should be $42..
Sorry about Greenhouse! Most times we get there for HH and then get seated. We hosted TTOL parties there. Manager Mike was fantastic working with us. I have to say, we have NEVER had a bad experience there. Yes, love the view at the old Lees, still the best ribs on the island IMHO!
The funny thing is......we went back to Greenhouse for lunch yesterday but had forgotten that when cruise ships are in, they host them with a significantly pared down menu which everyone has to order from. Oh well....on to Pineapple Pete's. Yes....we will try again.
