Well we made our flight on Cape Air from EIS to STT yesterday. Very cool flight! Small plane and my husband got to sit in the copilot seat (benefits of weighing 230 lbs - big guys up front - haha!)
However ...... they had to take all the bags off the plane because of weight limits. Which I totally understand. (we paid the $100 for the checked bags via Amex)

Before we boarded, the gate agent called everyone up who had checked bags - we had 3. She asked our final destination and my husband provided her with my Delta flight # and destination city - Columbus, OH. Then as we're walking out the door to board the flight she hands me 3 bag tickets - two are going to DFW via SJU and one is going to CLT via SJU. I told her we were not going to Dallas or Charlotte. She then took our information again - along with my phone number - and said she would call me later to let me know how they were going to get our bags to us.

No phone call yesterday. None so far today. I called the Cape Air 800 number - was given the number to EIS baggage. Called there, no answer and I left a message.

What are the chances we're going to see our bags again? All have Delta medallion tags on them along with name & address tags.

Cape Air has left our bags behind several times and they always caught up to us, usually two days later.

stay on Cape Air's US office, the desk at STT is horrible in my experience.

I called the US office (the 800 number on our ticket) but was told I needed to contact the desk at EIS. They gave me the number and I had to leave a message.
To complicate matters further, we flew from St. Thomas to Columbus to see our kids for a few days. We're here in Columbus OH till Friday then we drive back to northern MI. Really hoping these bags show up in Columbus before Friday. Fingers crossed!

Not good. We are booked through via Delta to EIS (STT) next month. Thinking about removing the STT to EIS leg via Cape. Heard many of these stories lately and don’t want to have to make return trips to EIS to collect bags that may be left behind and put on another plane the next day (even though we are only traveling with two Osprey duffels and two backpacks) due to load limits.

Cottagegirl - good thing you are not driving “Up North” today. Ice storm warnings mid state onward. Crazy MI weather lately.

I'm impressed they even pretended they would try to check them thru. On my last trip with the same flights you have I was told by Delta it could be done but at the airport I was told definitely not (even with Delta Platinum reps on the phone). We reclaimed in SJU and then carried-on to CMH.

Jason - our tickets on Cape Air were not tied to our Delta tickets because I booked them last minute. Perhaps that's the difference? We flew Cape Air to St. Thomas and then Delta to CMH.
MI Diver - heard it's a sheet of ice up north! I understand the load limits because it's a very small plane. Just no good way to account for luggage I guess.

Update: I got tracking numbers from baggage at EIS. They "say" the bags arrived at CMH last night. Currently trying to confirm that before heading to the airport .....

Well after multiple calls to Cape Air at EIS and Delta - and lots of conflicting misinformation- our bags arrived yesterday. Yay!! Bonus: liquor bottles wrapped in clothes were still intact!

This happened to me last flight out on Silver. My tickets were bought separate and Silver told me to file a claim w United when I got back to Chicago. Sounded nuts to me but I did as they said. The person at United @ ORD was wonderful. She said they would track the bag down and get it to me. 2 days later it was on my doorstep and 4 bottles of Sabastians were in all fine!

Thanks for this. Silver left our bags at EIS yesterday because the plane was overweight. About half the people didn’t get at least one bag. They didn’t tell us until we got to SJU, of course. Our second flight was on SW to Baltimore but Silver did not tell us to file a claim with SW. Gave us their phone number and email address but advised to email. Sounds like we will need to be more proactive. Just got in late last night, but the fact that you were able to get your bags is encouraging.

SW found the bags. They actually made it to Baltimore yesterday, but one of them got shipped back to SJU by mistake. They tried to expedite it back to BWI so with any luck it will get there late tonight. I was hoping someone would ship it to our door but it sounds like we will need to go get them tomorrow. We were able to talk to Silver at EIS earlier today, and they said the bags went to SJU later on Saturday. The number they gave us for the SJU office didn’t work. Oh well, at least someone can confirm they have our bags somewhere.

I think she was on different tickets. SWA was doing her a favor by getting involved at all. I doubt they will pay a delivery fee.

Exactly. It would be too much to hope that SW would deliver the bags 1.5 hours away when they were not the ones who lost them. May try to make a claim on the travel insurance for the travel to get the lost bags, but will need to review the policy.
