Have heard the food is very good there. But the drinks are over the top expensive!

I don't think so because we paid $ 22.00 for a bottle of Pinot Grigio.

Is this where the old Aqua was? Don't recall the restaurant names after Aqua went out. I know it's been a while since that restaurant was there but that's my only point of reference.

They tried to charge my friend, a well known bartender on the island, $5 for a club soda.

That disappoints me as I know the Owner. Well let him know about this.

Reminds me of being on Martinque a long time ago. Beer was something like $3 back then so my wife thought she would save money by ordering a coke...$5 for the coke!!

According to my bartender friend, there had been many complaints and the person was eventually fired. However, the drink prices remain high. We went back a couple of weeks ago (new bartender) and still paid WAY too much for a couple of drinks. Doubt we'll bother again.

Not SXM related, but a few years back we were at a company meeting in Mexico, and they were planning a party for an NFL game over the weekend. Wanted to limit how much was spent on alcohol, so they wanted beer and soda only. Hotel officials in Mexico said beer and alcohol much cheaper than soda, and were really pushing the beer because the ice was expensive, too. They put those alcohol dispensers in your room because you have to buy the soda and it is not inexpensive, especially at your hotel.

My husband used to get mad at me because I would walk in a club and just order a coke and the coke was more expensive than a mixed drink LOL

I have a friend, who when visiting Lithuania, ordered a coke while everyone else ordered champagne. There was a collective gasp as the crowd assumed he must be a very rich man to have ordered a coke! LOL

I do have to say that the location is great with a wonderful view over the lagoon and a nice breeze. Fitted out nicely also with a clean rest room. We really did enjoy our times there, as it is very friendly with plenty of locals - until we got the check. The food prices seemed decent, and I've been told the daily special, which is about $12.00, is very good.

Here's the location:

In the late 70's on St John, coke was $1 to $1.50 per can and Cruzan rum was $1.90 per bottle. We still laugh about that.

60 days and counting!

Cheers,
T

Those of us who live on the island for extended periods and go to happy hour 3 or 4 times a week know that there are many places on the island that afford a great view. You are quite right that the expensive drink places are avoided. If a location wants just tourists who will never be back or come just once a year--ok, but they won't get the people who are here for longer periods.

Only once or twice a week for us, but understand what you're saying.

Wife and I just returned from Italy. A friend ordered 2 cokes at the hotel bar; when the bill came he was floored. The cokes were 8 Euros each, at the exchange rate, thats about $10.64 each.

Is this place still doing well? Have they adjusted menu or pricing?

$6 for a Diet Coke on Friar's 4 or 5 years ago. They'll never see me ever again.

We stopped with Neil on the Celine a couple years ago for an appetizer and was very good, don't remember drink prices. Has anyone tried the pink tugboat that is a bar that is next to the crazy cow. We had a few drinks there last year, nice place don't remember if they had food.

Pink Iguana is the name of the tug from what I recall. I think they had a small list of appetizers but when we stopped it was just the owner/bartender and no food available.
