Oh, believe me, I'm expecting a battle. Interestingly enough, I have a notice from them (it's Orbitz) giving me credit, with an associated bank transaction number, but less than the amount charged. The transaction never hit my credit card. The person I spoke to yesterday, mentioned something about the "bot response" with regards to my credit. Total BS, of course, but I'm willing to play the game for a while.

Orbitz appears to have a "booking fee" equal to 1% of the ticket price before taxes, it that the discrepancy in the amount you are expecting? I have heard of multiple horror stories in dealing with these third party booking sites and personally talked to several people who have experienced them.

One is more like 21% and the other 16%, so there seems to be no rhyme or reason. I used them because of their special pricing--it was at Mary's Boon, and they do really stick to their advertised prices. And, I've always had good relations with Orbitz, so I suspect this is one of those Covid issues. Looks like the parent, Expedia, just got a big cash infusion (4 gigabucks sticks in my mind), so maybe they'll be more accommodating.

Ok, I was only looking at the fees for booking air. I am not a big fan of third party booking sites and would ONLY use them if it was a tremendous difference in price. I know CheapOair has something like a $50 refund fee IF you can get a refund.

Let's see how this goes. I have plenty of time, and don't need the cash in the near future, so I can play the long game, if that's what's required. I have another protest in with Orbitz on a hotel cancellation, but I have so much time on my hands these days, this is actually a nice distraction. And, while I have rescheduled our Mar/Apr trip to November, I'm beginning to think it may not go off. Time for a margarita. Salud!

Am I missing something here. Was your AA flight booked through a third party also or directly with AA?

My flight was directly booked with AA. My hotel was booked through Orbitz. The rest of my trip had 3 different parties--everything resolved with them.

cruzer--I guess your situation is the poster child for the concept of 'wait for the airline to cancel your flight'..

Carol, at the time, I was trying to reach my travel providers on the phone, but never could get through. At the time, I didn't know the flight would be cancelled, but I did know that if I cancelled after the flight departed, I was SOL, so I cancelled the flight online, planning to fix this at a later date
. Actually, that's the issue I have with Orbitz--I couldn't get through either via phone of internet, and missed check in. I did call the hotel to cancel, but they couldn't cancel a 3rd party reservation. I'm fully prepared to follow this through 'til the bitter end, and hey, it beats the heck out of watching Judge Judy.

Wow. If that flight couldn't fly there should be no reason not to be able to get a full refund. Call and demand to talk to a supervisor.
