Wow, this article about Brazil mentions the USVI murder rate - YIKES <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cloud.gif" alt="" /> Is it that dangerous these days?
In 2011, Brazil, now home to 194 million people, recorded 51,198 homicides, ranked seventh among the world's most violent nations after El Salvador, the US Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Colombia and Guatemala.

Sorry couldn't with my iPad. Not that advanced. Google news "brazil murder rate"'. Dozens of articles. Brazil number 7 per capita, behind six countries one of which is usvi. Surprised me. I love us I especially St. John. I have had some gamey moments in the virgins. I'd still come back.

I don't like getting involved in discussions on Brazil, as I know nothing about them. I will comment that the murder rate just about everywhere, including Chicago, is driven by those who are involved with trafficking in drugs and guns. If you look at the supply lines from south America through the Caribbean and central America, you will see the results.

On St John right now. Been here a week with 4 days to go. So far so good. Wish me luck.
Of course we come every year sometimes more than once. As with anywhere common sense is your best friend. As Nutmeg said these things tend to gravitate to drugs and illegal arms. Stay away from them and you're 99.9% home free.
