Daily Herald storySo, apparently the new government wants the airport to go into default on paying their employees, which is what the airport CEO has said will happen soon, if the Dutch financing is not signed.

Those in government continue to make decisions that are “NOT “ in the best interest of residents and visitors ,in my opinion . Today they will tackle the “ Mullet Bay “ fiasco . When it comes time to vote On most issues , they are missing in action .

Mullet Bay to me, is just a distraction, not something they will do anything about. They need to sign that financing, and this refusal to do so is really bad for the airport and the island.

Lesley--do you think the Dutch loan for the airport is going to ever be signed?

The airport should have been and still should be THE #1 priority, post Irma. It's really simple, if you're unable to get people to the island, the economy will suffer. The infrastructure has put a severe limit on the planes it can receive. This limits seats going to SXM and therefore gives the airlines room to increase prices. The prices on all the airlines have been outrageous, including frequent flyer miles. The more expensive it is to get here, the more people will choose somewhere else to go. I've been here almost 2 weeks now, and I've heard more people complaining about how slow this season has been for them. I'm talking high end and not so high end places. They know it's "slow" season, but many have said it's been one of the worst slow seasons in memory. As some of the larger resorts come on line, it will be imperative to have more jets to get people here. The higher ups need to wake up to this.

Actually, the #1 priority should be homes for the homeless and folks in shelters two years on, But that won't happen either.
