Does anyone know what is going on there these days? Is anyone set up to sell food/beverages/chairs? Is it safe to go there? We are going in two weeks and have always enjoyed that beach.

Unless something has changed, I believe it has been posted here that Gus has been run off of Baie Rouge. Why would you want to leave the best beach on the island anyway?? grin Although it is a pain to haul chairs, you could rent chairs and umbrella from Craig at Packlight, as well as a cooler. There are coolers at BSV that you can use, but be advised they are too big to carry to the beach, for ME. They are a full family sized cooler, which most people don't need at BSV. There MAY be umbrellas there at BSV for your use, but to me they are not heavy enough to really warrant bothering with them, in SXM's heavy winds. Craig's umbrellas are good, sturdy ones.

To swim--it is sometimes calmer at other beaches--especially for us old people. LOL

I know Carol, Right? wink wink. Anyway, I remember reading a while back that he was not allowed to operate there, but I was unsure if the situation had changed. Do people still go there? I was wondering if safety was an issue.

And, we did rent 2 chairs and an umbrella from Craig for 9 days. He gave us a day and time to meet him right at the gate at BSV. We were just going to rent the umbrella, but the cost is so reasonable for our stay we just got the chairs too. Would you happen to know if the chairs are regular "lawn" chairs or the lower seated "beach chairs"?

12 days and counting..............

Virtually all of Craig's chairs are sand chairs, the lower ones. I believe he has a few of the other kind. You can contact him and ask him for the other kind, if he has any still available.

Don't know on the rest of your questions re Baie Rouge.

Exactly! Barely tolerated - if no one was looking. Saw a very angry homeowner one day confront a couple.

Thanks Dave. I'm sure we will check it out. It's one of our favorite beaches. We always pack a cooler so we're good there. Thanks again!
