Just to let everyone know Cape Air has canceled all 0736am flights out of SJU to Tortola until December 13.

Now does anyone have any ideas for now a 7 hour layover starting at 0330am?

How do I tell the 5’2” blonde in my life? LOL

Tell her you are going to fly into STT and take the ferry to Tortola.

With the flight change you should be eligible for a refund. Rebook on another carrier. If you choose the STT ferry option let me explain the process going home.
1. Cab to Roadtown ferry dock.
2. Discover planned ferry canceled
3. Stand in long line in sun for different ferry. Pay double the local rate.
4. Stand in line to pay exit taxes.
5. Stand in line for ferry security which is a joke.
6. Discover ferry at least an hour late.
7. Stand in line to board.
8. Arrive STT and circle while another ferry unloads.
9. Stand in line to get off ferry.
10. Stand in long line for customs with the added benefit of getting gassed by boat exhaust the first 10 minutes.
11. Cab to airport.
12. Stand in line to check bags
13. Stand in line for customs again. Long slow line.
14. Stand in line to handover checked bags to screening.
15. Stand in long be line for security. Slow moving line.
16. Stand in line to board aircraft. AC inop in terminal.
17. Board aircraft. Never so happy to be wedged into airline seat even though hot, sweaty and thirsty!
18. 5’2” blonde discusses divorce during flight home!

Flying to SJU option.
1. Cab ride to EIS airport
2. Stand in short line to checkin and check bags.
3. Short security line into room with AC.
4. Walk out and quickly board.
5. Arrive SJU, Quick customs and immigration with AC.
7. Have decent meal at airport with AC.
8. Board flight home.
9. Discuss wonderful vacation during flight with 5’2” blonde. Plan to come back soon.

Has something changed...decent meal and SJU were never used in the same neighborhood before....

I've done both travel options, but I've never had a ferry canceled...can't say the same for a SJU-EIS flight however. YMMV

Tell the blonde you’re booking a room in the San Juan airport hotel, which has been refurbished. A few hours’ sleep after a red eye will leave you refreshed and ready to enjoy your first day of vacation, rather than wasting that day sleeping.

Our experience pretty much mirrors George’s. The SJU food isn’t great, but the new Margaritaville is okay, as is the new coffee shop.

The A/C in the SJU airport is the coldest I've experienced. That must be to keep the Medalla Light frozen. If you decide to rough it, bring something to keep you warm.

Thank you to everyone for the laughs at work today. 5 mins after posting this. I found the SJU airport hotel, looks fine for a few hours. So that is the plan for now.

We our seasoned travelers and we did hear about all the fun traveling through St. Thomas.

The 5’2” blond is not a fan of long ferry rides.

This is really funny...we are previous STT ferry people who like the SJU route and dont mind Margaritaville food...

Of course I married a brunette so that may be part of it

There's a great wine bar right near Margaritaville. They also have cocktails, beer, and local food. It's a nice option from Margaritaville and doesn't feel like you're eating at a chain. Highly recommend the lentil soup with chorizo.

Cheers.

Sadly we're coming up on 3 years since we've last been down. But we've arrived late (or I suppose really early!) as well and then had a flight the next morning. Staying at the hotel is the way to go. We once roughed it and just waiting because we thought getting a room for 3-4 hours was a waste. It wouldn't have been.

As far as food, there's a restaurant in the Jetblue terminal that we always found to be decent. Haven't been to margaritaville there since we last flew American which was a long time ago.

We found Margarita beers @ $10.00 each! (Doubt that is needed early am, but maybe on the return)

We had great sandwiches and drinks yesterday at Landshark. It is $$$ tho.
Btw, probably the rudest people ever work at the SJU airport!
But we love flying to EIS, very friendly and helpful!
