They mention a microprocessor problem. That is not trivial. If so that could mean requalifying the box/cards/processor hardware and an operating system that goes with it.
Hopefully they can stick to a software only change.

I don’t plan to fly on the 737 Max.

I would be surprised if the planes are back in the air by then and that will then lead to more schedule changes and unhappy (former) customers.

Is this a Max 8 designation on AA? 738-Boeing 737? We are scheduled on this plane from Miami in October. AND you can buy the flights we're on for $250 ROUNDTRIP in Main Cabin. We are just flying from Miami and have seat assignments, but I guess we'd better keep a good watch on them, as our seats may change, if the planes aren't in the air by then. And I'd be just as happy if they aren't...

Pretty sure you are on a 737-800 which is NOT the same plane as the MAX series. Go to SEAT GURU to see the flights and equipment The Boeing 737 MAX is designated as "7M*' while the 737-800 is "738", with two configurations.

I would still be concerned with schedule changes, especially if the MAX 8 is not back in the air by then. They will pull planes from other routes to make schedules work but it will also inconvenience a lot of people.
Remember what I was dealt when the MAX 8 was first taken out of service. You may be ok but I would check constantly and if you have an out and another option is available, go for it.

If I was CONNECTING to Miami, I'd be a lot more worried. We fly nonstop from Miami on AA.

You may very well be ok then but I would still check on a very regular basis.

I do that anyway, as it never hurts to keep checking, even aside from this situation. So far, we've not had any issues with Miami nonstop flights.

I'll be booking my return flight for our May trip pretty soon along with our July round trip and will be avoiding MIA because of this equipment. Don't mind the airport but don't want the headache of having to go through seat selections for equipment changes if I can avoid it.

Oh great. We just booked our flight from Toronto to SXM on Air Canada for February (at a very good price I might add), and never thought to check the plane until now.. It is a 737 Max 8!

The plane designation (AA 2219 7M8-Boeing 737MAX 8 Passenger) I posted for the route was taken from the AA website so it should be easy to tell if it is your aircraft or not. It is on the MIA-SXM and return flights. The onward or arriving in MIA connecting flights do not seem to be MAX8 aircraft
It's a bit strange but all of the October MIA-SXM flights are like this " AA 2219 738-Boeing 737 " which is fine but the September flights I checked are on the MAX8

boucharda--As I said before, apparently only the earlier flight from Miami to SXM is scheduled for the Max 8, at least for next year. The 12:30 PM flight is the other plane.

That was my point. No clue why they haven't dealt with an seating/configuration issue that's only a couple of months away. (9/4/19)

AA notified me yesterday that they were using the Max 8 for our Nov. 17th trip out of Chicago to Miami.
Planes my not be certified by then so I called AA and changed flights/aircraft. They were very accommodating.
Yes, keep checking your flights!

I think we're scheduled on an A321 Mint.
