Flying into Rome, renting a car for 2 weeks. First day and a half in Rome. My questions are: Who should I rent from and why, and should I pick-up the car at the airport and drive into Rome or have the car brought to the hotel in Rome and pick it up there?

I work with a lady, whose cousin has a car service in Rome.
He speaks English, and grew up here. We send a lot of people to him, from where I work. He is very fair with prices. His name is Diego, and the name of the company is Fifth Avenue Limo. Best way to reach him, is e-mail. It is
mylimo@vadafone.it. Hope it works out. You can say to him, you got the information from his cousin, Isabella. Good Luck and have fun! Ciao!

sorry can't help with the request but I am so JEALOUS! I would love to try driving in Italy =) The lines in the roads are only "suggestions", if there's room to go around you can. Watch for pedestrians, they don't use crosswalks and yes everyone stops for them, it's an amazing experience (didn't have the curage to try until my second to last day there, just look straight ahead and cross, everyone stops to let you by).

I can't wait for your trip report! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

After driving in Italy, but not Rome, my recommendation would be to use the train and pick up the car in a smaller town or city. We got a car in La Spezia and drove all over Tuscany and Piemonte, but we got rid the car outside of Milan and used public transportation. Florence was a nightmare for parking, I can only imagine what Rome would be like. Have fun!
