Grand Case Restaurants – February 2019
Last Thursday, February 21, my foodie grandson and I walked from Grand Case Beach Club to Rainbow to check on the status of all the restaurants we have loved going to over the years. Thought we would share our findings. We did take our walk in the morning when most were closed so may have missed a couple.
1. Sunset Café at Grand Case Beach Club – up and running. On the water. The whole restaurant was blown away but has rebuilt and is now serving breakfast/lunch/dinner from a food truck until the kitchen is complete. Since we stayed there I can tell you it works!
2. Le Ti Coin Creole – Carl’s local cuisine. Half his restaurant is gone and what is left will take a lot of fixing.
3. Spiga – up and running. Serving dinner.
4. L’Ardoise – formerly L’Hibiscus – gone. Nothing there but weeds.
5. Le Shambala – formerly La Shore – in very bad shape. Doesn’t look like any work is being done.
6. Le Pressoir – up and running and serving dinner. However, this Pressoir is not the old Pressoir. New owners. We ate there and it is still upscale. IMO – a work in progress. We all missed Melanie and Franck. On the left side of Pressoir, where the boutique was, is now a cigar and rum bar called La Part des Anges. Looks very handsome!
7. Oyster Café – Gone. the building is there but in bad shape.
8. Calmos Café – In really bad shape. Doesn’t look like any work is being done.
9. La Crepe en Rose Stand – Open in the evening and my granddaughter contributed heavily to their week’s income! Located in the parking lot across from Calmos.
10. Zen it – bad shape but the building is being worked on.
11. Villa Royale – formerly Spicy – bad shape but the building is being worked on.
12. NEW: Olympia Pizza – open in evening. Was located in the ice cream place after the bridge on the right.
13. NEW: Nice SXM – formerly L’effet Mer. Open for lunch and dinner. On the water next to the dingy dock. For a small restaurant, the menu is HUGE! We had a pleasant lunch there and would go back.
14. NEW: La Frite au Vent – Open evening. formerly the Hidden Garden and prior to that the Brassiere des Iles.
15. Max’s place – Open lunch/evening. The small sandwich/drinks stand in the alley leading to the dingy dock.
16. La Bodega – Gone. Was also down the alley leading to the dingy dock.
17. The LOLOs – there are 5 of them: (1) Sky’s the Limit (2) Scooby’s (3) Rib Shack (4) Talk of the Town (5) Au coin des Amis. All open.
18. NEW: Takata Ice Roll – a stand that sells ice cream rolls. Next to the Lolos and across from Blue Martine.
19. Blue Martini – Open for dinner
20. NEW: Barranco, formerly Il Nettuno Italian restaurant. On the water and open for dinner.
21. Le Soleil – Gone. Our favorite restaurant that is now a shell looking out to the sea.
22. G’s Snack – Open. Sandwiches/drinks
23. Bistrot Caraibes – Open for dinner. As good as always.
24. Ocean 82 -- being worked on. Formerly Fishtank
25. Le Tastevin – In bad shape. Doesn’t look like any work is being done.
26. L’Auberge – Open for dinner
27. La Villa – Open for dinner
28. Le Cottage – Open for dinner
29. L’escapade – In bad shape. No work being done.
30. Piazza Pascal – Open for dinner
31. Other Lolo not on water side – open. Name? Across from the old California.
32. La Petite Table, formerly L’Estaminet – Closed. No activity.
33. Mama Mia – in bad shape. But never saw it open!
34. LOVE – in bad shape. May be working on it. Hard to tell.
35. The Garden – once upon a time, there were table set up in the front yard of this house and served breakfast and lunch. Now it is gone.
36. NEW: Le Temps des Cerises – formerly where Le Ti Provencal use to be. This new restaurant owns Sol e Luna and Pressoir. Serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hotel/restaurant and on the water.
37. Hever – Open. Breakfast and Lunch. Updated small hotel.
38. Rainbow – Open. Lunch and dinner. But being worked on. On the water
39. Ti Case – Open, tiny Pizza place on left across from Rainbow.
40. L’ile Flottante – Open – breakfast and lunch. this is the little restaurant on the left side of the road when you come to the end. Across from Rainbow.
41. Captain Frenchy – Open, lunch and dinner. On the water
42. Pizzeria Napoletana, formerly Aglio e Oio. Open
43. Chez Karim – Open. Mideast food. Near drug store.

Really sad but optimistic that it will come back. GrandCase was the big draw for us to travel there. We are foodies and had been in the restaurant biz for 30 years and loved to explore Grand Case. We loved it so much we came home from our first trip and book a return months later. Gourmet Capital of the Caribbean was the title and they lived up to it.

After 1st stay GCBC we booked while we were there for the next year. We go to eat.

Thanks for all the info. We were worried Giselle ( G's snack bar) might not rebuild.. Have fond memories of eating at the water's edge and watching the sun go down at the Calmos. Can only assume they can't afford to rebuild..BEFORE the storm they emptied the restaurant and filled two containers. As for the Blue Martini we have fond memories of dancing to fabulous reggae way into the night.
