Latest update ( Link ) , our suspect has been released, at least temporarily, for medical reasons. From looking at the pictures, I don’t think he was released for malnutrition.

Maybe he headed over to Anguilla to partake in the socialized medicine that is provided by the Brits? (He has fallen on hard times). And, since the boat was confiscated and in possession of the St Maarten authorities, maybe he considered it public transportation and that is why he borrowed the boat? I am quite sure that he had every intention of returning the boat and even with a full tank of gas.
