Increased seats TO 160? Did I read that wrong? The A-319 has around 120+ seats by itself

Hmmmm, I wondered about that, too. 😊😊

I questioned that too. They might be referring to the larger plane from MIA that holds more and the additional seats the flight from CLT will hold.

Round trip from CLT hovers around $1,000. We are looking forward to returning to SXM but we can't justify it at that price. For just a bit more we will take a cruise that stops at SXM for a day. Hopefully the price will come down as the island recuperates.

Funny thing - I looked at a one way flight yesterday for Business Class, JFK to SXM n/s that I thought was a great price. Spoke to DH last night about it, trying to nail down plans for April dates, and this morning I went back on the AA website to book it and the price had doubled.

Our Fall Business Class tickets down, again purchased very early on, are about $110.00 each less than the current coach prices for the same flights.

And that, my friends, is why it sometimes pays to strike while the iron is hot regardless of how early on you’re looking to book. 😊😊

AA changed the aircraft type on the MIA-SXM service effective June 7. They were operating A319s with 8 First Class/Business seats and 120 Coach seats, for 128 total seats. AA is now operating B738s on that service, with 16 First Class/Business seats and 144 Coach seats, for 160 total seats.

40 seats (31% increase) may not sound like much, but it's a very positive sign, and it's very real - those additional 40 seats are flying today.

Minister DeWeever may be slightly off on the future flights. AA's present schedule shows only two SXM-MIA nonstops per day effective 12/19, not three. AA's present schedule also shows both PHL-SXM and JFK-SXM service starting on 12/19, for a total of five AA nonstops per day from four cities.

Initially the second MIA, the CLT, and the PHL services are scheduled to operate using A319s (8F, 120Y), and the JFK service looks like it is scheduled to operate using a B752 (16F, 160Y).

Ahhhh...so AA changed planes for their only flight right now and added seats....makes sense BUT it would have been more of an impact if they gave the increased seat total for the additional FLIGHTS that will soon be added

I will be on an A319 from CLT-SXM in January

Not bragging at all but just for curiosity sake....

...I booked from PVD-CLT-SXM R/T for $391 (actually 30k miles)
... flight from BOS using the same CLT connector $527
...JUST going r/t from CLT to SXM is $804 (same flight as the PVD and BOS flight connector).....

Just can't figure out the airline prices

I don't think that the detail will cut-and-paste well, but here you go...

Prior to June 7 - 128 seats
Effective June 7 - 160 seats
Effective Nov 4 - 288 seats
Effective Dec 19 - 720 seats

There's a temporary big bump on the Saturdays around Christmas, with an additional MIA flights and two additional CLT flights.

You can't figure them out, our daughter is an AUC Med student, we live near Orlando, we have priced flights from MCO - SXM connecting in MIA, thought they seemed a bit high, so priced the same but direct MIA - SXM, $150 more, it was cheaper for her to fly to MIA from MCO and take the same plane to SXM. So what plan do they have for the airport to be able to handle all the increased flights and passengers? The current tent situation won't handle it.

Agreed. And a great Marketing person would have written the press release that way, which would have led to the newspaper article being written that way. Marketing is underappreciated by those who don’t understand the importance of it.

..and re: PVD fares. Maybe an explanation for why they are so low to SXM through Charlotte. Look at this posting for just PVD-CLT fares for specific summer/early fall dates. I think AA is pushing the PVD thing over BOS....VERY restricted dates though

Quote
American Airlines have round trip airfares travelling to and from Providence RI (PVD) and Charlotte NC (CLT) for $65, nonstop. This is a basic economy fare which means it is a restricted fare.

Travel Availability:
Departs PVD: June 16, 18, 20, 23; July 4; Aug 22, 29; Sept 5, 12, 15, 19, 26;
Departs CLT: June 16, 18, 20, 22-23, 27; July 4; Sept 8, 10, 15, 22, 29; Oct 10, 17, 24, 31; Nov 7, 14

Looks like we are headed the other way...less flights not more.
My return flight on AA on Feb 17 just evaporated. Now moved to another flight leaving 2 hours earlier. Layover extended to 4 hours. Typical airline bait and switch. <sigh>

Well, truth be told on the return I would rather have my layover extended than shortened. Too much vacation relax has disappeared by customs etc. and rushing to the connecting flight. I checked my January flights and they are intact....and it's been almost a week! wink

..and that 720 seat increase is just a potential increase assuming all flights are full....if not they will combine a return flight with another but, with that said. April IS a bit in the future to determine what the sales will be over the next 10 months

Just noticed that the only non-stop flight on AA from JFK in late Dec.-Jan. is on Saturday. Strange?

We are on that one for May. There were others to choose from out of JFK-SXM for that time period.

That's a recent change.

AA really isn't all that interested in flying to the islands out of JFK.

AA is changing their schedule faster than I can keep up with it. That 2nd MIA flight? Poof, it's gone. Those extra flights around Christmas? Poof again. Who knows what tomorrow will bring...

I hate to even think it, but if there is a storm....they will be definitely gone.

B752 is shorthand for a B757-200, which AA normally uses for international flights only. 16 First/Business seats, 160 Economy seats, 176 seats total.
