Is it worth snorkeling off any of the beaches in Anegada? I hear the reef can be quite far off the beach with some strong currents. We have a mix of strong, moderate and weak (novice) swimmers. Maybe best to not bring the gear along.

With many years of experience taking guests, MY answer is no, out on the reef it can be good, but the surf beats it up pretty bad. But off Flash of Beauty, if you can snorkle out to the surf breaking, it is very cool to snorkel under and around the coral heads, but this is only for advance snorkel people. There are better spots to snorkel in the BVI, but there are not better beaches.

Bring your stuff. You can almost touch the patch reefs off Loblolly Beach Yes the best snorkeling is deeper where the ocean reefs are but there is good snorkeling in the patch reefs just the beach. Lots of grouper, tangs and parrotfish. We had some rookies last month too and they loved the beach snorkeling in Anegada

The reef of large elkhorn coral just off the beach at Flash of Beauty is my favorite snorkel in the BVI. I frequently see nurse sharks and occasional eagle rays. It starts about 25 yards from shore and extends about 325 yards from shore to the gap in the breakers. As mentioned it's susceptible to East to West currents and to significant rip current if there are heavy seas breaking and pushing lots of water over the surrounding reefs. People have been swept out to sea here and it can be several hours before a rescue boat arrives.

I agree with Baardj. That spot he pointed out off of Flash of Beauty is amazing. Bring your gear. You won't regret it. Have fun on my favorite island!

Totally agree with Mike....fine for advanced swimmers but NOT for beginners....
