This is FYI for those who would like to help/donate but are not sure of the most reliable method. Samaritan's Purse is a charity organization with an outstanding track record of integrity. They were, as far as I can see, the first organization (including Dutch and French govts) to airlift emergency supplies on Sep 8. They are continuing operations in St. Martin and expanding to the Turks and Caicos: https://www.samaritanspurse.org/article/caribbean-response-expands-food-on-its-way-to-st-martin/This is an excellent way to help the people of St. Martin. I feel bad for the people of Florida, but honestly, when someone in our great country "loses everything", they will still live like kings compared to the people who truly lost everything in the islands. Let's share our blessings.

Sandman,
I agree with you absolutely and I made a donation very early in, as soon as I heard they were on the ground there.
I did make a phone call to inquire about earmarking the donation and they said, basically, no worries, the money WILL go to SXM until their needs are met and then they will go towards other locations with similar issues and needs. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Domenica is gonna need Samaritan's Purse tomorrow. That place has even less resources than SXM.

If what they told me is accurate, and I believe it is, Dominica will get help too. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

I feel this is one of the best uses of our donations at this time and you can select to have the funds go to the most needed place. Even though there are go fund me places for different resorts for staff which I have also donated, hopefully they do not give funds out until there is something they can actually purchase to fix their homes or lives.

Who ever starts the GoFundMe account is who controls it and can access it and take the $$ out when they want. GoFundMe also takes about 7% of what is donated. In looking at supported countries on the GoFundMe site, St. Maarten/ St. Martin is not listed. This would mean people in St. Maarten/St. Martin could not actually withdraw the funds. Not sure if people in the US are starting these or how it is working. The Netherlands is listed as is France but the Netherlands Antilles is NOT listed. Supported Countries

I've seen a few posts asking about where to donate.
Bumping in case anyone is still looking for a reliable way to help.

Recently donated to SP, then curiously decided to check up on their record. At least in Canada, they are tied at number 1 in charitable and fundraising efficiency for International Aid. MoneySense

Samaritan's Purse is definitely one of the best organizations to donate to worldwide. They never hesitate to provide assistance wherever it is needed.I have supported many of their projects and will continue to do so.

The CEO for Samaritan's Purse makes $622,000 per year in salary. Nice work if you can get it.

In my opinion, a CEO should be compensated based on his performance. Clearly, Franklin Graham is an excellent CEO, and this charity does amazingly great things. I don't begrudge him his salary at all.

Really? How much do you think the "ultimate" leader of this organization would take if he was still walking on the earth?

And still beneath the compensation levels of multiple other charities. I begrudge him nothing as long as he keeps doing such a good job! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

OK, enough.. People can contribute to whatever organization they like. This type of discussion is not productive.

These so called CEO's deserve this kind of a salary, for charity organizations? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> And then there is Jeannie, an angel on earth!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/thanks.gif" alt="" /> Jeannie, you certainly could give them a few lessons in humanity! I'm done here.

I'm done here. While I will agree Jeannie is doing an outstanding job of trying to help out, what exactly is a "so called" CEO? A CEO of any company is in charge of running the company and usually commands a remuneration commensurate with others holding a similar position. IHMO, this CEO salary is pretty low compared to a lot of others. Do you have any issues with the salary athletes make from their sport and endorsements? I would suggest anyone wanting to donate to any cause do so of their own free will but I would also suggest looking at the % of donations that go to actually helping the cause versus what a CEO makes. There are many charities that only a fraction of what is donated actually goes to the cause.

"So called CEO's?" This is why when people donate their hard earned money to victims of disaster to help them and then realize the "top" gets fund money? I am sorry. You can defend the "CEO's" but I am talking about charitable organizations, not Wall Street. And I will not even go into the issue with athletes salary because I will be banned from posting on TTOL.
