I know it's probably to early to ask but, does anyone have any info on how Orient Beach, Orient Village and Grand Case fared in the storm?

Nothing specific yet but below is a statement from a good friend who lives on the island. I guess they watch a lot of American TV.

"I am safe....Irma leaves with only destruction in its wake...Total island devastated...[color:"red"]Looting everywhere.[/color]"

Very interested in those areas amongst all the others.

They are still in "the red" on the satellite. Maybe dark before the thing is totally off the island.......which will not help venturing out

I think info is going to be sketchy for a day or two. There will be massive telecoms infrastructure damage, who knows how well internet is going to work going forward?

Grand Case is a bit of a shanty town and is so close to the water.....doesn't bode well.

Calmos put up 28 pictures on their facebook (looks like the put everything they could into shipping containers before the storm hit): https://www.facebook.com/calmos.desaintmartin/

Some Grand Case damage (among other areas) on this twitter page: https://twitter.com/bienglace

I just saw the Calmos' pics. As if I wasn't already disheartened enough.

I keep crying, but I keep looking.

Oh my goodness. Grand Case is gone.

I think the picture of the resort is in the Maho area.

I'm worrying the silence about the French side is not a good sign. Has anybody seen/ heard anything from the Westin to Nettle Bay on that side. Saw a little grand Case and Marigot and nothing in between.

Was wondering the same thing. Haven't seen anything about Club O, or how the new buildings on Orient beach held up.

The pictures Calmos Cafe posted are absolutely heart wrenching. it is just so totally...mowed down. I'm pretty sure you can see the c'est lavie sign peeking out from some of the bar rubble.

I found some evidence of the damage to Orient Village. See the attached FB video and look around the :09 mark. Tons of damage, but a surprising amount of roofs left standing given the direct hit. I hate to the think of what the storm surge did.

This also shows flooding of Alegria lobby and the road to Beachside. Shows major roof damage to Alegria.

The beach at Mary's Boon/Karacter is washed away with sand across the runway all the way to the air terminal. Cannot walk on beach from Mary's Boon to Beachside Villas as water comes to airport fence. Nature will replace this like it has in prior years.

The Today Show this morning reported that 95% of the French side had been destroyed. So sad and very hard to wrap your head around.

Based on where I see the sand having accumulated and extent of destruction, I made this artists rendition of what I imagine the storm surge to have been.
Probably about 8 feet in height that had waves passing Tap-5 Pizza. So Sad!

Wow, absolutely heart wrenching. I hope my friends at La Playa are well, this looks really really bad in Orient Village.

Bob Dot--are you referring to the link in the post above yours, as I don't see the Alegria lobby in it.

Yes, study photo taken at the Maho end of the runway (-5 on the clock). The upper portion is the Alegria area.
Also study the full length shot of the runway as it looks like there are 5 white dots on the left upper section on the beach. That seems to be BSV.

Nice work

At first I couldn't find your rendition, I thought you were putting sand and then I saw you added water.

This is the first photo I recognized of anything near Orient. Not good, but not gone either.

Please post if you find anything of the new shops, beach bars, club o, Pedro's or mt Vernon.....

Using the image from Orient Village and mapping it on Google Earth, the max extent of the sand was 250 yard equaling both surge and waves extent. By example that's all the way to the office at Club O
