Hello,

I'd like to have a discussion about the latest for provisioning. We will be arriving at Nanny Cay on a Saturday night around 5 pm.

My questions focus on a few topics. Pre-Ordering VS. self provisions. Usually, the guys do the briefing in the morning while the ladies go shopping. What markets are the best.

Is the Riteway market in Nanny Cay a place you can get everything or do you still need to go to Road Town?

Riteway VS. Bobby's

Anyone provision in Spanish Town? What market is there?

And any suggestions you all have will be appreciated.

Thanks,
M

Just giving you a hard time - - but I still think it's important for everyone to be there for a boat briefing -- at any rate...to answer your question -- the big Riteway at Pasea is like a grocery store in the states and will have everything you need. We generally have the heavy stuff and the things we don't really care about picking out ourselves (gallons of water, soda, booze, beer cases, juices, condiments, paper goods, etc.) delivered. We shop for all produce and meat ourselves at Riteway. Not sure what the status is of the one at Nanny Cay but Pasea has a very big selection. Some people use Caribbean Cellars for booze - we have done that too - to save a little $$$ -- we've had good and bad luck with timing from them.

The market in Spanish Town at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor I heard was closed? Not sure if that's true or not - shame if it is since that was a very good market too.

If you want to restock during the charter, the market at Leverick Bay is a pretty good place to do that. They have a great deli counter there and it's good place to grab more bacon, eggs, bread, snacks -- some meats as well - it's pretty decently stocked most of the time.

That's my two cents

Riteway - seconded....

And if are a newbie to BVI - seeing the Riteway in town is "impressive"... hey - you're on a tiny island afterall...

and, if the ladies want shopping....
There is a shoe store in town, next to Vanterpool's pharmacy.....I forget if it's SAID's, or Clover's...

(( I just know I'm gonna get flamed for that comment.....LOL ))

Thanks for the info. I'm surprised Bobby's isn't mentioned. Is Riteway just so much better?

Bucks food market in Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor has closed/relocated. It is now located next to the RTW Wholesale store on the road to the Baths. Agree Riteway in Roadtown is the way to go for beginning provisioning.

There was always a Bucks on the way to the Baths -- too bad the one at VGYH closed - along with many other things there! - that was a good market.

The Rite way at Nanny Cay is pretty small, therefore could be limited in quantities.

Previously I have given Riteway GREAT ratings. This last trip (March 2017) I was disappointed on several issues. 1) over 3 hours late on delivery. 2). Although Delivery sheet was 95% correct, the order was not completed and worst part was they did not list what was NOT filled.
Be sure to verify order based on your ORDER sheet.
(I will likely use Riteway next trip but will definitely check based on the ORDER sheet).

Should have clarified....they moved the Bucks Food Market in VGYH to the Bucks Wholesale market which is on the way to the Baths. The food market is on the first floor and the wholesale market is on the second.

Stopped at Bobby's at Cane Garden Bay a day or two ago. Found it to be worse than I've ever seen it. Poor stock. Out of date items, etc. Will never stop there again.

This is disappointing. We're staying in CGB 3 nights pre-charter and were hoping to walk to Bobby's for provisioning for our 3 nigths.

The CGB Bobby's is great sometimes and very poorly stocked others. The fresh coolers were not working a few days last week but have since been repaired and are stocked again.

You'd have to be pretty creative with meat to fully provision there but there are some frozen items available.

For 3 nights, it's probably cheaper and easier to hit happy hour at Quito's and Myett's.

Thanks Jason!
We were looking for breakfast items, snacks, liquor & drinks for the days. Was also hoping to pick up ingredients to make a few quiches to have on our boat during charter for easy breakfasts. Looks like we may have to stop somewhere on the taxi ride from the ferry to CGB.
Already looking forward to dinners out at the Sugar Mill and maybe Bananakeet :-)

There is also a provision shop next to Quito's that has a very good stock of items. Between them and Bobby's you should find most things you need.

Don't skip Bananakeet, it's fabulous. If you must choose, choose Bananakeet, Make a reservation for before sunset... You will not regret. Have the pork if you like pork.
